Question Capture Error

I'm a newbie and I need some help. I've searched and searched forums and have not been able to find anything on the error I'm getting during SageTV Version 5 setup. When I get to the option of "Please select the input on the ATI T200 AV Stream Analog Capture Device" which gives me the options of 1 - Composite, 2 - S-Video, and 3 - TV Tuner, it doesn't matter which one I select, I get the following message: There was a Capture Error in playback. Details - ERROR (-2, 0x80070491): There was a problem using a SageTV component. Please reinstall the SageTV application. I've uninstalled and reinstalled with no success.

I have an ATI All-In-Wonder 2006 card and am using XP Media Center. I can view tv with the ATI application, but I can't get SageTV to install.

Software encoder cards can be hit or miss, so there might not be support for that card, or part of Windows MCE is still using the card.

BTW, if you are interested: You would get a better quality recording from a hardware encoder card and it would use less cpu while recording. Plus you can use multiple hardware encoder cards, while multiple software based encoders probably would use too much spu to be worth while.

I don't understand - what exactly is a hardware encoder card? What would you suggest?

Basically, a hardware encoder card has its own processor on the card to encode the audio/video stream. Whereas a software encoder doesn't have an onboard processor, and has to use your main CPU. That can be a problem if you max out your CPU. And some software encoders require you to capture the audio stream through your soundcard. That introduces sync issues between the audio and video.

So, basically software encoders aren't recommended.

Pretty much any tuner card on this list will be supported. http://www.sagetv.com/requirements.html?sageSub=tv
