Streaming video from web?

Sorry if this has been covered here before, I have done a number of searches, and found nothing covering this, I am just getting back to reinstalling SageTV. What I want to do is be able to stream video from a device that has an IP address. I have a device that can get video stream, and I have been able to use VLC on a computer to watch TV. What it is, is a FTA unit running Linux and is on my network. I don't want to hook up the PC with Sage to the box because it has a hard drive in it and I can record direct to the box and then move the recordings over to my NAS to view any where in the house. What I want is to be able to do is feed live IP TV to a Media MVP in a room with just a TV, sound system, and a network connection. I currently have Sage 5_0_4 and the SageTV Media Extender License. Thanks for any help you can give or thoughts on the subject.

That is what the Placeshifter client is for. And it needs to connect to the Sage server box over IP. Maybe you can use a proxy to get to it but that was one of the main reasons they developed the Placeshifter client.

Ok lets start over, I don't want to stream from Sage, meaning, I don't want to stream a video I have on my system. I don't want to stream from my system, over the internet, I want to be able to type in an IP address of a video stream, using Sage and my Media MVP and feed the MVP to a TV. I can get my weather, music, and video's to my MVP. The Music and Video's are on my NAS, Weather was configed when I setup Sage. I want to be able to stream video, from an external source. I saw a plug-in for another PVR package that would let you do that. Using the plug-in and VLC. But I really don't like the other package, a little buggy, I really would love to stay with Sage. I have ver 5_0_4, I have downloaded ver 6, but not installed it. Is there a way to do this, or am I looking at something new to this package??? I have been using sage for a for years and really love what is can do!!! I am just starting to grew myself, with what I want to do with it. Thanks for any input or help you folks can give. Happy Holidays.

OK-you can't do it with Sage. Sage can get a Google video and play it but it downloads and plays it. Sage doesn't do video streams from the Internet.

hitme,

Another person (can't remember where I got it from) posted this in another thread. It basically starts SagetvPlayer directing to some IP Address:

SageTVPlayer.exe http://66.250.45.118:7010 -dumpaudio

I don't know if it will work for you, but give it a try. I was going to see if it will work with an IP Camera.
