Linux VS Windows questions?

I am running sage 5 on windows xp now. I would rather run 5 or 6 on linux as I am much more familiar with linux than windows and was just wondering if linux versions of SageTV were as mature/stable as the windows versions. is Linux the primary development playform? will all the plugins work as well?

Thanks
Dave Packham

so far I have found only a few linux-only bugs. So far, all of them are fixed in 6.0.16.

At this point, I am comfortable moving off of my Win server. I just need to find the time to move the HDD and all without disrupting any recordings....

Like you, I am more comforable using Linux. For that reason, I chose to purchase the Linux server "OEM" edition of the SageTV server.

In my experience, if you plan on using serial control of a set top box, it is not ready for prime time. It is totally unsupported in Version 5, and in their latest Beta (6.0.16), it does not work. Currently, I can not use it for my intended purposes (primarily for pausing and recording live TV), but I'm hopeful that they will have this feature fixed before public release of version 6.

Windows and Linux keys are not interchangeable.

You can double check with SageTV, but as far as I know, they aren't transferable.
