Strange Whitish Lines

I've been using a PVR-500MCE with SageTV for a year now, and I've always had this strange issue. A transparent line brighter than the rest of the screen has always scrolled from the bottom to the top of my screen. I've always just put up with it, looking for help but not finding any on various forums and search engines, but I've finally become frustrated with it after upgrading to SageTV 5 and upgrading all my drivers with no improvement.

I've attached two images where you can see what I'm talking about. It's not as noticeable in a static image, but it's very easy to see in motion. Any ideas?

You have a "hum bar". This is a common artifact and is caused by some sort of grounding issue with your video signal. The reason why it moves is the difference between 59.94 and 60 Hz. Unfortunately, ground problems can be difficult to track down. You need to start by disconnecting things from your system until you have nothing but the computer and the tv. If the hum bar is still there, the you need to look to making sure that computer and the tv are on the same electrical circuit in your house. If the bar goes away with everything disconnected, you start putting stuff back on until it reappears and then address the ground problem with the device that causes it.

These types of problems can be really difficult to find and sometimes damn near impossible to fix. If you are feeding the tv with composite video, you can, as a last resort, get a "hum bucker" to put in line with the video. These can be found used at broadcast surplus stores and might not be too expensive. They will be BNC in and out, so you will need adapters.

No easy answer. Just diagnose and try to fix.
