I had thought to reduce the amount of traffic to the server with the tuner so I setup another SageTV server that is purely a hub for extenders. Then the clients attach to the hub SageTV server. I'm doing this because the extender can only be reached via wifi.

However I'm finding that the performance is poor. It is worse to go this way than to directly to the extender with the tuner and make that a SageTV server.

Is this common for others that tried this or something is up with my setup?

Maybe I'm missing something, but how is that going to reduce traffic to the server with the tuner if all the shows and tuners are located on the original server? All the data will still have to be streamed from the original server.

If I watch live tv or records new shows, they are not on the remote tuner server.

Also, when I setup a new hub this way, all the shows that were recorded wont be on this new hub so I wont see them. Everything will be new.
