is my Sage server broken?
hope this is the right group...
well, my MVP freaked out on me this morning. it's been turning itself off once in awhile since I got it. This time when I turned it back on it got stuck on the teal Sage boot screen. I'm testing v6 on the laptop so I set the MVP to connect to it instead and I get the same thing. Couple of times the MVP has flashed between black and boot screens and I had to unplug it. I'm thoroughly baffled this time around. The darn thing will connect and play well w/ the Hauppauge s/w. The webserver is working fine as far as I can tell; just checked and VLC will stream recordings. Placeshifter on the other hand sees the v5 server, but refuses to connect to it at all. Just checked the web server again and it shows the MVP connected. Thing is I unplugged it about 3min ago; power button on the remote didn't work. WAF is dropping. Service and the computer have been restarted several times and I deleted the properties file for the MVP. Still no dice.

I used to be plagued with these exact same problems. A few months ago I made 2 changes. First, I did a fresh reinstall of sage. (I renamed the old directory, installed sage from scratch and then copied my old wiz.bin and properties files into the new install directory.) Second, I changed my DHCP server from a netgear router to a D-link router. It has been months and I have not seen any problems with the MVP since. I'm not sure which change made the difference. All I can say is I had gone through many previous attempts to fix the problem including erasing the extender properties file and trying the different mvp.bin files posted in the forums. Sorry I can't be more specific, but hopefully this helps a little.
Aloha, Mike

mine is set up with a linux server handing out static IPs based on MAC #s. I might feel "froggy" later on and try the reinstall after I rar the entire sage program folder. The MVP (wired) seems to be working fine w/ the v6 install on the laptop w/ 54g. It hates the v5 install now. It's a shame v6 is still an RC or I'd just bump v5 off here and try that.
I tried the debugging mode and got some interesting errors near the end: Code:

Something interesting I found the other day, this probably isn't your problem, but Sage will not load on an MVP if your DHCP server doesn't hand out a default gateway, even though the MVP should not need one. I know most hardware/routers do this by default, but I was having trouble with DHCP (still am) working on my linksys wrt54g so I switched to a software dhcp server which does not give a default gateway unless you specify one which I figured wasn't neccessary.

ok, did the reinstall from scratch. MVP is happy again.
Got all my stvi's back in. Now my Recordings menu looks totally foreign. It used to look like the upcoming recordings menu in the default stv. Closest menu I can compare it to is the upcoming movies screen sorted by title/date. is there a way I can get it back to looking like the upcoming menu again? oh, the first run dots started working on the guide in the MVP. not sure how that happened; never worked on the mvp before.

YOu can go into the settings pages and change the menus back to the default from the malore style. I dont remember the exact page, but it is towards the bottom of the menu, in the "unsupported options" or something like that.

Go to Detailed Setup -> Customize, scroll down to "Unsupported Features", and change Recording Style from malore to default.

Now I have to wait for smallville to finish so I can figure out why I'm missing the enable/disable comskip menu while watching a show. comskip is working well; I just can't turn it off from the options menu. Edit: duh again. didn't notice comskip was 1.2.1 so that'll fix the menus
