Can I have another look?

About 3 weeks ago I downloaded and installed the Sage TV trial. Fired it up and it crashed on me almost immediately, so I simply uninstalled it and went back to using BeyondTV and continued searching for a replacement for BeyondMedia.

Not having a lot of luck in my search, so thought I'd try looking at Sage again...but I cannot, since the '15 day trial' has now lapsed. Any way to reset it (short of a system rebuild) so that I can look it over again for a day or three?

I'd guess not. But you could always contact SageTV directly and inquire to them.

If you imaged your computer before the trial software installation, then you probably could try the software again. I normally image my computer before trying any new software - that way I can image it back to before the trial software was installed.

If your computer ever crashes or is infected, then you can always roll it back to a 'known good' condition. You should not ever need to rebuilt from scratch after you have a set of images to recover your computer. It is better to backup your system before you need to recover it!

The trial period is often reset when the version changes, so it would probably be reset when the v6 beta ends & the release version goes out, but I have no idea when that would be. I don't think it gets reset for each beta release, but if you tried v5 previously, the v6 beta trial might work since it has a trial period too.

That's what I was trying when I was told that my trial period had expired.

Oh well, I guess I will press on in my search for now. Just downloaded TVedia 15-day trial - hoping to get more than a one-crash look out of it.

If you only tried the v6 beta trial, maybe the v5 trial will still work for you. It should still give you a good idea of sage's capabilities.

Aloha,
Mike

Should have been more verbose initially: Tried v5, crashed before I could even see if it would configure to my needs, uninstalled - waited about 3 weeks, downloaded 6.15 to try again, popup indicated that my trial period had expired.

Oh well. Was worth a shot.

SageTV7 Trial reinstall

Wish to completely remove trial version of SageTV7 for legitimate reasons. My HTPC was started last year in April. Since then I have gone through a few operating systems and THREE Zotac GF9300-G-E RMA returns! I wanted to try SageTV7 but motherboard blew up for the third time during Sage install. GF9300-G-E Chipset heatsink is criminaly inadequate but thats another story. Replacement board took 30 days! Re-installing Sage it says "trial period has ended". Anyways I would like to try full SageTV7 to see if I like it better than the current NERO Liquid TV TIVO I'm using now. NERO software does not work with 95% of HD tuners and HD capture cards, only seems to support SD recording. I have a new Hauppauge Collossus HD PVR capture card and Nero will not work with Colossus HDMI HD input. Hauppauge published SageTV7 support for Colossus in their software, will see if I can get a usable trial version to test it. Sent in a SageTV support request and waiting.
Has anyone figured a way to do this? I would like the option to reinstall several times until I get everything right!
Stephen

After the clean Windows install, take an image, then install the trial software, SageTV or any other trial software. Then you can completely uninstall the trial software by recovering back to the image. Some imaging software is free too.

Reinstall

Thanks, but I spent several months getting this system to where it is today. My last Acronis TruImage is about 20 modifications and tweeks ago. Just don't remember everything I did to do over again. Guess I could always start over. Before I jump in that direction, I'll wait until SageTV support gets back to me.
It is nice though to see capture of encrypted HD video right off of the UVERSE STB! I love it when people and institutions tell me "son, there is no possible way to do that" Gets the me motivated!

the problem is there is nothing to prevent "illegimate" users of a "legitimate" need for a work around of a time limit. If there is a way around it, there is no time limit.

I think you'll have to bite the bullet and roll it back to the image before the SageTV trial installation. You can then setup Acronis to take much more frequent images during the build process. It won't be as painful as installing the OS from scratch, unless you want to go back that far.

It's always a compromise how often to take the images during a build. Almost no one ever documents every step and every parameter change. So the best approach is to take pretty frequent images during the build process.

I doubt if your going to get anywhere asking any software company for a new trial. I think you can wait for the next version if you are really patient, then you can probably get a new trial for the next version.

You could try one of the VM machines. Either Sun's VirtualBox or VM Ware.
