Use Placeshifter license for wMVP?

It looks like I have to buy the Hauppauge wMVP locally because I am in Europe and I need a PAL device.

It looks like it shouldn't make a difference because the Sage MVP is just a rebranded Hauppauge anyway and even the remotes are the same.

The only thing I cannot find a definitive answer on is the license.
I have, if course, a license for Sage Mediacenter and also 1 Placeshifter license.
I currenlty have to watch TV on my laptop when I am away from my living room TV and that's where the wMVP would be handy.

But, when I buy the Hauppauge wMVP it will not include a license, of course.

Can I use my Placeshifter license for the wMVP or will I need to buy a separate license??

Thanks,

If you buy the package from Sage, you get an MVP and a license.

If like me, your outside the states and need a PAL MVP, then you buy one from a normal retailer, and it doesn't include a Sage license. However, if you have a placeshifter license already, that is the same as an MVP license (they're interchangeable), but only one will be able to connect at a time, unless you buy more licenses.

Okay, thanks! That's what I needed to know

Can you watch DVDs from a wMVP by the way?
I know that with Placeshifter it doesn't work...

Can't it not stream commercial copyrighted disks to an extender?

Right, but the note quoted above states that it is for hard disk based DVDs. It should also be able to play non-encrypted DVD disks, such as home-made disks or anything else that is not encrypted.

Thanks again.

I need it for harddisk based DVDs.
I rip all my DVDs to harddrive to have easy access. Better performance on playback too. Not sure if it's entirely legal to rip my own DVDs for this purpose, but hey...
