Customizing IR

I just spent a fair amount of time customizing the remote commands and I'm curious about a couple of things; Will these changes be over written when I upgrade? and; Is there some properties file that can be copied from the server to the clients to make the process faster or so that I can get back to normal after an upgrade? I'm using the same type remotes on all of my systems.

Any help is appreciated,
MBrew

The answer depends on what remote you are using & whether any of the clients are MVPs.

If you are using something like a USB-UIRT, then the IR assignments are found in the properties file, using the ui/rc_mappings/<command name> series of properties.

How about with the MCE reciever? I kinda figured that they would be in the properties file, but this is the only entry that I found there: "ui/rc_mappings/custom5=73714523753124,"

Would learned commands be overwritten in an upgrade?

Thanks,
Mike

In that case, SageTV doesn't store IR codes from the receiver at all as far as I know; instead, it responds to the commands as the remote sends them as shown on this MS page. I think you can customize only a few of those buttons -- the ones that show up as keyboard results when you press a button while viewing Detailed Setup -> Commands -> Show Command.

What buttons did you customize? Are you using that receiver directly with SageTV or via something like HIP or Girder?

Learned keyboard & IR codes stored in the properties file are not overwritten during an upgrade.

Thanks Opus. I'm using the reciever directly with Sage. I Used the MCE keyboard and assigned a series of letters to various commands I needed. I have been able to assign any button on the keyboard to any command. Of course for the commands that have keyboard shortcuts, I don't have to teach them to Sage, just to the remote. I use a Harmony 880 remote and I labled them as I required. One of the reasons that I took this approach is that I still use MCE for music. Some of the codes (DVD in particular) are used in both systems, and MCE would often launch when I wanted Sage to respond. The ability to customize the remote to this extent is one of the things that brought me back to Sage from BTV.
