Does Sage wake up a dormant drive?

Question.....

How far in advance of a recording will Sage make sure a drive is spun up after going to sleep?

My wfie just let me buy a new Lacie 2TB Firewire drive and I notice that I puts the drives to sleep on its own and there's no way to change that. It seems to take about 15-20 seconds for it to spin up all 4 drives in the box.

I am wondering if this is going to present a problem for Sage.

Thanks,

Stacy

I actually tested this last night w/ my machine in hibernation. It woke up my machine 1 minute before the recording was scheduled. But I don't know about just a single sleeping drive....hmmmm

This is something you can configure. I configured my Sage to wake up my computer 32 minutes in advance in addition to a sleep setting in Windows of about an hour. This way, it won't go to sleep when there's only an hour or so between recordings.

The wake up time is configured for use when putting the entire system to sleep. SageTV doesn't do anything that I know of to manage a single sleeping drive. Waking the drive as needed & so on will depend on the OS, but wouldn't it buffer the data written during the spin-up time & then write it when it can?

Hi All,

Any update to this problem? I'm having problems with HD recordings to a drive thats in sleep mode. I gave up on getting my entire server to sleep and just have the drives sleep after 30 minutes. The problem is that the recordings are broken into two files. One about 9.2MB and the second the rest of the recording. They don't play correctly as a chunk of the recording is missing from the beginning. This is caused by the drive needing time to spin up. I know that Sage can wake up a sleeping computer a few minutes before recording but what's needed is for Sage to check and wake up a sleeping drive at least 30 seconds before recording. Any way to do this?

I have a raids array which is set to spin down all the drives and have not had any problems.

A simple work arround would be to add the spin up time as padded time in Sage settings.

I run WHS that spin down all my drives after about 10 minutes. The OS knows these drives are spun down and will cache any data that needs to be written until the drive is active. The only time I notice anything is when SageTV needs to read something from a drive that is spun down, there is a delay but that is the only thing.
