Doing a clean install

OK, I've got some weird problems that recently started happening with the beta's. I've got a stutter that occurs every couple seconds on HD material, never happened before. My guide is so messed up that it's becoming useless, i.e. channels that had info before now have no data in them. I have popups that show up on top of Sage in FSE mode when that never happened before, it minimizes to the desktop when that never happened before. Tech support acted like they've never heard of those bugs, then after one email exchange you never hear back again from them. Communication is not their strong suite.

I can't get the guide data to show up using the proper channel id's and such, but it is there because on the old non beta I used xmltv to get the data and it worked. So Zap2it has the data and provides it.

Just a wild guess on my part because I haven't heard anything back since well before thanksgiving and I'm tired of waiting. It appears to me that the Wiz file contains the essential data for the EPG and it might just be somehow corrupted. I say that because the properties file alone doesn't seem to hold all the channel Id data.

So here's what I want to do because tech support hasn't got back with me in over a week. I want to reinstall from a clean start. I'm going to copy the SageTV directory and then delete it, reinstall sage from scratch and remap hundreds of C band channels so they tune properly, another bug they haven't fixed yet. That should I hope fix the EPG, maybe the hesitation as well.

I would like to retain the data on all the shows I've got recorded right now, and that's what I'm not sure of how to do without restoring the Wiz file which I suspect has problems. Is there a way or must I lose all that data?

The wiz.bin holds all your shows/recording data, as well as the EPG... So if you lose it, you will lose all your show info. You could always try starting from scratch to see if it fixes it, then restore it, but if your wiz.bin is corrupted, I doubt there is anything anyone can do about it.

See if you have a file called wiz.bak. If so, replace wiz.bin with it. If that doesnt help, backup wiz.bin, sage.properties, and SageClient.properties. Then uninstall, delete the dir, and reinstall.

OK, doing a clean install fixed some stuff but not others.

Here's one major problem I can't seem to solve with the EPG. No matter what I do I can't get all my channels to show data. Upon the reinstall I got the 17-2 to show guide data and the 6-2, however 6-2 would not tune no matter what I did. 17-4 showed data as well.

However, because I lost 2 additional channels in the EPG I didn't keep the installation. You know you gain one channel, lose 2 others and have to remap hundreds of C band channels if I kept it.

Now, it seems that I need to flush my wiz of the channel's I have, but if I load another area and let it update and then delete and add back my source I still keep the data as it was. For example on the clean install which showed data for 17-2 it called the station kqfx. Now it's listed as KMIZDT2 normally and used to have guide data, but on the new install the guide data was under kqfx. So I put the old one back, zapped my source and lineup, then added it back using a different area, then zapped it again and added it back with the correct area. No guide data, and if I used kqfx which worked on the clean install still no guide data.

That tells me something is stored somewhere that's not getting flushed, how do I flush it out?

I'm asking this because this beta is supposed to have this ability to tune these sub channels, and it's also supposed to be able to pick up the guide the stations transmit, yet mine does not do this.

Where else can I look?

I figure I'll solve one issue at a time starting with the guide, then the hesitation. Hopefully you'll point me the right direction. By the way, I disabled the virus program and everything I could think to.

Do you have the latest beta? I was having strange problems with digital OTA chans until I installed it, and let it do a full scan.

Yes, I have the latest version at this point in time. When I let it do a channel scan it'll find the stations but the id's are all wrong and I get no guide data then.
