Transcoder Setting

I know this has been discussed ad nauseum but for some reason I cannot seem to understand to obvious. I have tried to modify these settings but with no luck If some one knows how please tell me how to change the following:

transcoder/formats/MPEG4\ HDTV\ Deinterlaced\ in\ AVI-Good\ Quality=f\=avi;MCompressionDetails\=-vtag xvid -deinterlace;[bf\=vid;f\=mpeg4;br\=6000000;][bf\=aud;]

To resize to 1280 x 720 and to use the VC9 (wmv) codec if that is possible.

Thanks in advance.

Code:
transcoder/formats/MPEG4\ HDTV\ Deinterlaced\ &\ Resized=f\=avi;MCompressionDetails\=-vtag xvid -deinterlace;[bf\=vid;f\=mpeg4;br\=6000000;w\=1280;h\=720;][bf\=aud;]
That should resize. No idea if you can transcode to wmv or not. I do know it can transcode to XviD instead of what you're using now. BTW I also renamed it. I believe you need to rename the profiles to something else instead of simply modifying an existing profile. I think I read somewhere Sage will replace it with the default profile if you don't (not certain about this though).

Thanks, the renaming was the problem. Still interested in VC9 if anyone knows how to do that.

From a DOS box, in the SageTV directory, type: SageTVTranscoder.exe -formats

I see there that the encoder supports wmv1 and wmv2 codecs, if that's what you're talking about. I am not sure which file format can hold these though as I never used them before. Just look at all the file formats displayed by the above command and you may figure something out.

Patilan,

Thanks, doesn't appear vc9 is supported. WMV1 and 2 are earlier and very inferior formats. The reason that I am interested in vc9 is that my video card has HW accel for that format and not for Divix. Trying to playback a Divx file at 1080p or to a somewhat lesser extent 720p is choppy even on my 2.7Ghz machine. I may be left with the option to leave HD as the original file or convert to a DVD compliant fie, which to my eyes and with limited testing, is amazingly good on this transcode software.

This is true. If you modify an existing named transcoding setting Sage will reset the values back to default at startup. You need to create a new one with a different name.

Are you using ffdshow? I would think that playback would not be an issue with that CPU, as long as you are not applying filters. For me I am able to do this, but I have to turn off sharping.

Have you tried an AVC profile? Many of the newer video cards support accelleration of MPEG-4 AVC, aka H.264.

On that topic, anybody have any good AVC profiles?

First I have a Nvidia 6200 so this is not all that new. Second, what isan AVC profile?

Yeah, a 6200 probably doesn't have H.264 accelleration.

By AVC profile, I mean a SageTV transcoder/converter profile that uses MPEG-4 AVC (H.264) instead of MPEG-4 ASP that the default ones use.

AVC is a much, much better codec than ASP, but require a good bit more power to encode and decode.

According to Nvidia's product chart both the AGP and PCI-E versions of the 6200 have H.264 accelleration, but there have been a lot of problems with almost all the AGP cards and the accelleration. Not to mention the charts never appear to be all that accurate as far as features go.

I briefly tried it, but got an error message and didn't fool with it again. I figured for my purposes it wouldn't be worth it due to the encoding time. I don't even recall what I tried.
