...A continuation of my thread here. I think I have a problem with the way comskip resumes play after skipping a commercial block. For example, playback is supposed to resume at time index 25:11 but instead skips ahead to something more like 25:44. If I manually move the the time bar to 25:11 it appears to be the correct end of the commercial block. Here's the fun part - it seems to work just fine on the MVP, but not on any of the 2 clients and server.

I am having issues with getting the latest version of comskip playback to work on my SageTV client (works great on my server). I record to T:\SageRecordings and I mapped that drive to the T drive on my client (so it's also T:\SageRecordings) but for some reason I do not see any commercial bars when I play a recording on my client. I know the STV is working as I see the CS icon on my client when I go to the recording under SageTV recordings. Any ideas?

I freshly installed SageTV 6.3.5 and am using the default STV. The only things besides the videos that were from my older (6.2) install of SageTV are 'Sage.properties' and 'Wiz.bin' and 'Wiz.bak'. I've tried downloading the default STV again and import into that. But no luck. Opening the SageTV3-1.xml after the import and doing a search does yield entries for 'Comskip Playback Options'.

Any ideas?
I am relatively new to SageTV and completely new to ComSkip, and am having the same issue as quoted above. I downloaded and installed ComSkip Monitor, and can see ComSkip working perfectly as .edl files are being created for all of my recordings. Then I imported the ComSkip Playback STVi into SageTV3.xml, which created and used SageTV3-1.xml. Unfortunately, though, I am not able to see any ComSkip functionality in SageTV. I have tried switching to SageTV3.xml and back to SageTV3-1.xml, with no effect, and have completed a server reboot. No Dice.

My versions are as follows:

SageTV: 6.3.5.0
ComSkip Playback: 1.5.1
Java: Java 6 Update 3: 1.6.0.30
Java 2 Runtime Environment, SE: 1.4.2_13

Any ideas?

Thanks
Shaun

First off uninstall your java 1.4.2 installation. That's an older version and you already have java 1.6.03 installed. Java doesn't uninstall the previous version so technically both versions remain functional.

Thanks, Gerry -- that did it. I'm not a Java expert by any means, and didn't know if the two installations were intended for different purposes.

Cheers,

I've searched high and low and haven't found an answer.
Also, I'm not sure it's a comskip issue, so tell me to take my bags and go if it's not comskip.

Here's the problem:
I have video marked for commercials.
The commercials show up in the timebar.
When the show reaches a commercial it skips to the end of the marked commercial.
And, then it hangs. Well, the video hangs. The audio continues.
If I right-arrow (which sends me to the next segment of non-commercial video) and then left-arrow twice, things are pretty good. Usually the video starts right back up.

I was having this problem with the default STV and I'm also having this problem with SageMC.

Any thoughts?

Thanks,

Mitch

What decoder are you using? I saw the same behavor with PowerDVD when I tested it with digital CC. WinDVD and nVidia PUrevideo worked fine.

Yep, it appears to be a video driver thing.
I had downloaded PureVideo and have been using the Nvidia Post Processing option for the video decoder since that provided the smoothest playback.
But, when I switched to the "regular" PureVideo decoder, the skipping worked fine.
I guess I need to go and figure out how to tweak things so the regular PureVideo makes a nice picture.

Anybody know what happened to the web site for downloading comskip? When I try to access it, I get a page saying the account has been suspended. I hope it is just a mistake.

Comskip is available here in the downloads section, Downloads»STVi Imports»page 2. Downloads is accessible from the menu at the top of the page.

Has anyone been able to get Comskip working on the Mac Client?

It works great with Placeshifter (mac).

http://code.google.com/p/etv-comskip/

Otherwise it runs perfectly well under the windows emulator

No the problem still persists on my server and client. The extender was working OK though - weird.

What version of the software and STVi are you using? I am running 6.3.8, but had the issue in 6.3.7 as well. I have used 1.5.1 Comskip and some others and they all seem to have the problem. I am wondering if it is because of SageMC. Did you instal SageMC?

I submitted a bug report and got a response already:

New version available for download

(1.5.2)
- Change when playback starts in a commercial block to skip to the end of the block
- Change to not skip to the end of the commercial block when FF/RW into a commercial block
- Fix not showing icons in imported videos in SageTV 6.3.10

John

I have been having a problem as of late that I haven't resolved. It did not start with version 1.5.2, but persists with that one as well. Sometimes autoskip is disabled. I look in the options and it says it is enabled, but it does not skip. So far I have reloaded the stv imports and it started working. But, it just stopped again. Anyone else have this problem, or is it just me?
some more info...If I send a custom2 to disable then enable comskip it starts working
I am going to try to upgrade to the new 6.3 release this weekend to see if it helps.

ver: 6.3.5.159
java: 1.6.0_03
comskip stvi = 1.5.2
xp pro,

Comskip settings:
Autoskip Commercials = enabled
pause playback = disabled
show timeline = disabled
left/right arrow = enabled
start on watch = disabled
manual comskip = disabled

more options:
broadcast type = NTSC
Commercial start delay = 5000
Commercial stop delay = 5000
comskip files icon = cs only
Different Marker = yes
size of position indicator = x1
skip while info displayed = yes
show osd extd info = no
