Ver 6 and power management. Problems with standby/hibernate

My server is set to go to standby after 20 min if idle, but since installing ver 6 my server never goes into sleep mode. If I shut down sage there are no problems, so I’m pretty sure it is related to Sage.

It doesn’t matter if I’m running Sage in service mode or not.

Any one else having that problem?

The beta versions have logging enabled by default and there isn't a way to turn it off. That is why your server isn't going into standby.

Hi blade
Thanks for your response.

The logging procedure could be what keeps it awake but on the other hand, I've always had debug logging set to true in sage.properties. No changes there.

There have been numerous posts about how logging with the beta is preventing standby.

I don't know much about it, but the logging in the beta can not be turned off. Editing the properties file has no effect on whether or not logging occurs. So maybe something is different than it normally is when you run debug logging or maybe it has nothing to do with the standby problem. I'm just going by what has been posted in the beta and other threads on standby and logging with the beta.

I can see from my log file that sage is running a library import scan more or less constantly. As soon as it has finished one scan it initiates another within seconds or few minutes. And so it goes on.

I wonder if that constant HD activity is what keeps it awake

That sounds kind of useless (I don't even use the video library).

Is there anyway to turn that off in the beta?

Good question. I don't know if it can be turned off. Maybe it’s off by default if you haven't specified any import libraries. Check your log file to see if that's so. Look for:

.... Seeker is starting the library import scan...
.... Seeker has finished the library import scan.

There is an option for that in Detailed Setup -> Customize. Just remember that you'll need to manually start a scan (or restart SageTV) to see new imports if you disable periodic scanning.

Andy you are a star!

Changed the setting for periodic scanning to "no" and my server is now sleeping beautifully. So, periodic scanning in ver 6 means constant scanning. I'll pass that on to support.

Thanks!
