MVP Advice
I was pretty happy with the picture quality on my tv, from a 6600GT composite to my small 15 inch tv. (Can't afford a Sony Bravia 32" LCD yet )That is, until I connected up my new wired MVP. I couldn't believe how much better it was.
I was a bit miffed that it came with firmware version 1. I'd been playing with a friends wireless MVP that allowed you to choose which server to connect to, but as I only have 1 sage box I suppose I can't moan too much. I do have one question though. The menu's are a little slower at changing than I'm used to on my main sage pc. Is this normal? or would an upgrade be in order. My sage box is an Athlon XP 3200 with 1GB ram. I have noticed that when placeshifter uses connect, the picture stutters on the main pc for a few seconds until their connection is established. I'd like to get a dual core eventually but am still paying off my holiday. Any advice appreciated. |

Are you using the stock STV, SageMC or something else? I have heard that SageMC is a little slower unless you turn off animiations (or something like that, I do not use SageMC).
I have found the MVP menus are a bit slower, but nothing drastic. I do notice that sometimes the MVP delays after pressing a key but then "catches up" in a second or two. Again, nothing drastic but sometimes noticable.

SageMC is not a little slow with animations. It would make you throw your remote through the TV if you had to use it. That was my experiece anyway... What the OP is describing sounds about right for the stardard stv. Fast enough most the time, but it will hiccup/hangup for a second or two occasionally.

I'm getting used to it now, its more like using an NTL cable remote rather than a sky satellite one. If your not in the UK, the NTL is so slow you can make a cup of tea between presses, where as sky is instant. Now that I'm getting used to it, its not too bad, I just have to be patient and not press too many times in one go.
I'm using the standard stv and have turned off video's in all menu's. The MVP is definately worth it for the picture quality improvement. Next weekend's job is to run some cat5 between downstairs and upstairs so I can use it hardwired in the bedroom, just need to get the long drill bit back from a work colleague. I was looking at the mains powerline adaptors as wireless just isnt good enough for video, but the reviews have put me off. I could kick myself as I had the house re-wired 4 years ago and didn't cat5 it as I thought wireless would be sufficient They put phone sockets in all bedrooms using 6 core cable. Cat5 only needs 4 core to work but its phone cable and not twisted pair there goes that idea. |

Did you apply the Hauppauge registry patch on your server? REGEDIT4 [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\Tcpip\Parameters] "TcpWindowSize"=dword:000f4240 "Tcp1323Opts"=dword:00000001 |

The speed of the MVP in my experience is almost instant... except if its in a "hiccup" stage, which doesn't happen very often. A button press in say the program guide has such a small delay (if any) its hardly even noticable... The only real normal delay I see is say when going into recordings where it usually takes a few seconds to get to that screen, but then browsing through recordings is normal speed. But it sounds like you are on wireless... not sure if that would make any difference in menu speeds.

I just got my wired hauppauge mvp yesterday ($35 steal! WOOT)
I am using sage MC and with the animations turned off it runs great. The menus are fast except for the occasiona 3-4 second hiccup when going into different menus. No problem with video or music watching/listening though so that is good. I wish it had the spinning sage logo because when it does hiccup, i tend to mash keys thinking it didn't receive the signal. What is this registry update that was mentioned?

It would be nice to have a list of all reg hacks for the hauppauges along with what they fix. I have 2 350's and a usbpvr2. The usb pvr2 is the only one being used at the moment, until I move the PC downstairs and have both satellite's wired up, into the 350's. The usb pvr2 will then be for my test rig. What firmware version is your wired MVP? and where abouts are you? In the UK the MVP has a scart socket on the back. In NZ the ones I saw had composite connectors. Amazon actually..
It was a used "new" item for 58. Then for opening an amazon credit card amazon automatically gives you 30 free dollars to spend so yeah. got the thing for 30+shipping at near-new-condition. Luckily it was a D3a and not a bad firmware.
