Installed WinDVD 5 demo last night just to get the codec. Checked it out, cpu usage when playing DVD about 10%. WinDVD reports using DXVA.
Noticed now In Sage I have a new codec called just "Intervideo". This new codec gives directx errors in all modes under VMR.
But SOMETHING happended from the installation, now the old intervideo codec, the (non CSS one) that gets installed with Sage,under VMR, works with DEFAULT as mpeg mode and Default on Deinterlacing. CPU usage 10 - 12% when viewing TV ( I belive this indicates DXVA)
So something about the install FIXED the old intervideo codec.
Picture is great, deinterlacing appears to be working wonderfully. I think this is the best output ever.....noticably sharper than when using in Overlay mode.
Cyberlink codecs still dont work.

I put in a support call about these issues with the overlay working/not working DXVA working/notworking a few days ago, hopefully someone can figure out what is causing so many of the modes to fail or work improperly.
I think this is important since DXVA is recognized and listed as one of the major benefits of SageTV over the other offerings.
I belive its clear from the testing and results I have obtained that :

1. Its very possible get Sage Codec settings messed up so that they are not working properly (DXVA) - and this can severely impact performance.

2. Just because you have selected a supposed "forced" DXVA setting - one of the mpeg modes, does NOT mean you are using DXVA - it only means that you have selected it. It seems to me the only real way of telling is by doing testing and checking the CPU useage under the different modes.

Applied the registry 'hack' to the new intervideo codec supplied from WINDVD, can access VMR modes as a result and now cpu usage with that codec viewing live TV is between 5-10% picture is excellent. deinterlacing excellent.

Conclusion : Acceleration MAY be impossible without the registry hack?
