SageTv and Tivo?

Someone is advocating that TiVo purchase SageTV. I know it's probably just someone's uninformed, insane, ramblings, but it is a VERY scary thought!

Here's a link to the page.

The reason I found this was it has been linked at the PVRWire list.

I'd like to be the first to say NOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!! There has to be a better way to get CableCard support, which is absolutely the ONLY thing that TiVo has that SageTV could possibly want. Sorry but everything else that TiVo would bring to the table in terms of their ideas on functionality, features, DRM aren't worth it!!

I've spent years with SageTV and don't want to have to start looking again. Especially considering what else is out there.

Well, the blogger is Alan Cooke, AKA Sticky. He is certainly not uninformed. But I do agree that they are insane ramblings.

I don't think we have anything to worry about.

Aloha,
Mike

They are insane ramblings, my ramblings usually are .

Its part of my effort to show what the ultimate digital home would be. Sage fits in to part of the picture because they have did a great job in allowing you to view or hear your content wherever you may go. I chose TiVo because they are recognized name and have a place in many many houses across America.

Now if we can get someone to (natively) combine home automation, media management, storage solutions, online solutions... the list goes on. Its not much to ask for is it?

I am surprised anyone picked up on my post

I saw it linked from PVRWire. Man you really had me scared there. I'm no fan of the direction TiVo seems to be heading in relation to ads and that is what has me scared the most.

Well that and the annoying "bloop" sound every time you do something . (is that still there in the newer versions of TiVo firmware?) I know the first time I saw one that sound sent me running from the store.

I've been a ReplayTV user since their second model (2020) and still have the 2020, a 3030 (both upped to 60gb) and two 5504's upped to 120gb.
It's been sad to watch them go down the tubes getting bought out by companies who had no idea what they had. (Sonic Blue and then DM Holdings)
I still haunt the ReplayTv thread over on AVS and had high hopes for their PC version until I saw the (lack of) feature set.

With BobPhoenix's Media Player Time Jump import for SageTV that removed just about the last hurdle that was keeping me from migrating from my Replay's to fully using SageTV.

I don't want SageTV to be bought out by anyone right now. I just don't see any of the "named" companies that have a handle on what the users want.
