Question Adding HDTV, will this work?

Does anyone else have a satellite/cable HDTV STB that they use Sage to record off of and also watch their HD content?

Would a setup like this work?

HDTV STB connected to PVR-150 (would only record in SD) and HD outputs connected directly to the HDTV. When watching SDTV content you could watch through the PVR and when watching HDTV content switch inputs on the TV to watch it directly from the HD STB. Audio would be routed through a receiver.

I have exactly the setup you are talking about (short of having enough processor power to record/watch HD content), it works fine. You just have to be aware that if you are watching HD on the TV and change channels that it can potentially screw up your scheduled recordings on that tuner because Sage does not know about your channel changes. Other than that, it's a good 'starter' solution ...

I was thinking that even though I wouldn't be recording in HD, I could still setup Sage to record the show, that way the conflicts could be documented and fixed.

When you refer to this as a starter solution do you have any ideas on how you would make your situation better? I know HD takes a lot of space and power to record, but is there anyway right now to record HD content from a STB? From what I have read so far the only HD content that you can record is via OTA HD cards.

If you have a cable HD STB you should be able to record unencrypted HD via firewire (cheap to do, but limited). If you want to record satellite, see the post above (big $).
