Server + Client on Same System?
This may be way off topic for this forum but since there seem to be "frontier" folks here, I'll take a shot.
Here in Santa Cruz (the 'sc' above), we get 3 out of the 4 majors on HD. The missing network is ABC which has some pretty cool programs on it. But at my office (in Mtn View), there's boucoup HD channels available. My thinking is to setup another sage server on a system there. My problem is how to "client connect" to it. Option 1: copy the files. Option 2: run the server to view local files and the client to view remote files. Option 3: convince Frey Tech that "networked" servers is "way cool"... ;-) Any other ideas? Cheers. |

Multiple SageTV installations can be used on multiple PCs w/tuners on each PC by setting up network encoders (Appendix G in the SageTV manual), but that is for a LAN; I doubt you would ever be able to set up something like that between remote locations.
If you want a client to be able to view the recordings on a remote system, your best bet is to use SageTV Placeshifter. You could watch any local recordings via SageTV or SageTVClient, while Placeshifter could be used to connect to whichever server was remote to your current location. - Andy
