Sage 5 Hangs at Startup

I am attempting to tryout Sage 5.0.4 but I'm not getting very far.

After installation, starting SageTV hangs at 'User Interface Manager is initializaing'. Left it there for a while and it happily stays there.

My system is MCE fully updated, Jave 5.0 update 9, ATI TV Wonder 200.

I've searched the forums and found nothing that worked, or even an attempt by Sage to fix this, although the last time it was commented on was version 2.0.

I've got it now....any help? Please?

I don't have MCE, but I believe that there are some MCE specific services that have to be disabled in order for sage to work properly. Also there is a known bug in JRE1.5 that can cause crashes and other problems. I'd recommend reverting to the version that ships with SageTV (1.4.2_11 I think).

Thanks for replying, but the Java issue is moot since I installed the update because Sage was hanging and I *thought* that Java may have been the problem.

Now what are the services that have to be stopped in MCE? That might help to know that....

I uninstalled all Java and installed 1.4.2_10. Guess what? It still hangs, so I guess that's not the problem.

Are the duplicates causing me problems? Is there something wrong with 'Widgets'?

These are the three services I stopped:
Media Center Extender Service
Media Center Receiver Service
Media Center Scheduler Service

Take a look at these quotes..

For me I had to disable in MCE 2005

EHtray.exe from the startup group (msconfig)
Media Center scheduler service
Media Center receiver service
MHN service (just for laughs)

Somebody else posted this list..

I'm not using MCE, so I can't confirm either quote, but that is what a quick forum search brought up.

If you haven't done so already, try deleting all your .properties files and their autobackup versions in the SageTV directory, or at least move them somewhere else, while SageTV is not running at all, then restart SageTV.

If that doesn't help, save your logs and contact SageTV tech support.

I've tried removing the properties files, and terminated as many processes as I could without blowing out the system, but still no joy.
