I have the same issue when my display is set to Default (VMR) instead of Overlay mode. I can adjust the picture in the vertical direction but it always displays black bars on the side of the picture. For a source in 4:3, this is fine and does not distort the picture but for 16:9 source material, I have not found a way to stretch the picture horizontally.

Try changing to overlay mode, and see if this helps.

Also, what is the advantage or disadvantage to being in VMR mode vs. Overlay?

mlbdude - Why is the 9000 not the best if doing HDTV?? I am using a 9200 and it seems to handle HDTV pretty well.

HDTV requires a component input or a DVI input to get a real progressive signal. SVideo does not do it. Only the 9500+ support the ATI component adapter. You could probably do it with DVI but I am told the card is still not up to the higher resolutions HDTV supports.

Correct, I am using DVI out from the 9200 to my JVC tv. It seems to snap into 720p mode this way.

I am using the AccessDTV card, and when I can finally get it to go full screen, I will post my results, but it looks great in the windowed mode.

Overscan is working great, I have about the same viewable screen that I do on regular TV, plus it nicely fills the entire tube and is the correct aspect ratio. Here's the problem - if I check the Use Dscaler box it shrinks the video about 20% horizontally giving me two 1/2" black borders on each side of the screen. This in-turn messes up the aspect ratio (everything looks stretched vertically). Adjusting the zoom percent in Settings does nothing horizontally but it will zoom in/out vertically.

I'd like to use Dscaler because I am experiencing some scan-lines during fast motion sceens. Thanks in advance for any info/suggestions.

I get this same problem but only on a few of my recordings. So far it seems limited to my recording quality setting. Such as "Fair, or DVD extended play". I don't believe it's a Dscaler issue for me because I believe it's listed as "Disabled" for me. I'm just wondering what you've had your recording quality setting at when you've experienced this. ( or if you've overcome the problem now that it's been a month or so since you started this thread )
