Linksys WRT54G as Wireless AP?
Hello all,
I'm trying to figure out a way to get my wired MVP to work from across the house without running any wire. I read that the Wireless MVP has some issues with transmission speeds and weak signals, so I purchased the wired version. I have an old Linksys WRT54G 802.11b/g wireless router sitting here collecting dust, and wanted to see if I could somehow get it to act as a wireless bridge by connecting it (wirelessly) to my main wireless router so they could all be on the same network. The problem is, all the tutorials I've found that show how to do this, set the two routers up on different subnets (192.168.0.x and 192.168.1.x) but the MediaMVP has to be on the same subnet as my sage server in order for it to work. Does anyone know if it's possible to use this linksys router to do this, or am I just going to have to go buy a real AP client device? If not, then if you have any recommendations on AP Client devices to purchase, I'm all ears. Thanks in advance - Ryan **EDIT** Editing for spelling and grammar mistakes. Hi,
After much time spent with wireless MVP's, and bridges, I finally found the solution to my MVP situation. I purchased a fairly cheap WRT54G router and uploaded the firmware from www.thibor.co.uk which allows you to make this wireless device a wireless bridge, and modify many of the non standard settings (I actually had to use a slightly different firmware, as I have one of the non compatable versions) So WRT54G acting as a wireless bridge plugged directly into my MVP connecting to my Primary AP which is hardwired to my sage Server (WRT300N) Works very well, pretty responsive Menu, and no stuttering at all. tutorials and other info can be found at: http://forums.hardwarezone.com/showt...ghlight=belkin This Wiki site helped me configure each of the routers to be able to talk to each other (i.e. how to setup the subnets, IP addreses, etc) http://www.dd-wrt.com/wiki/index.php/Wireless_Bridge running Sage 6.11, sage MC 6.20a

Sorry to double post, but just wanted to let you know that I tried this and it worked BEAUTIFULLY.
Using the DD-WRT firmware, and following the wiki's instructions exactly got it to work perfectly. It's now upstairs hooked up to the TV and working great. Thank you thank you thank you so very much. - Ryan |

bridge mode in this freeware too...
www.dd-wrt.com but it needs a specific linksys or buffalo model and revision level. I've used the router mode software for quite some time. Excellent. |
