Trying with Sage but keep falling at the first hurdle..

That is getting a picture on my screen, I tried with my Terratec Synergy 2400i card yesterday, automatic scan picked up nothing (I am in Finland) I found some instructions about xmltv but the link is no longer valid.

Anyway I decided to try with my Technotrend S2-3200 DVB-S card (BDA drivers installed) and thought I would be more clever this time
I scanned the folder and seen the freqencyscanSAT file (from memory so might be wrong)
Now call me fussy but it might be nice to have an example in there, not just an empty file that we fill in as we go along.
Does anyone have DVB-S working and could post a section from their .FRQ file?

I would love to just see that Sage working because I believe it is great, but strictly for the hardcore at the moment.

DVB-S is work in progress and channel scanning isn't working just yet. Its just channel scanning left to do (tuning works, CI/CAM works) and its pretty high up the developers list so hopefully not too far off.

If no-one has DVB-T frequencies for Finland, you could try a full scan using http://nate.dynalias.net/ScanChannel...annelsBDA.html. Alternative might be to ask on some other boards e.g. MediaPortal.

http://www.digitv.fi/sivu.asp?path=1;2999;3959 looks like it has the data you need. Also attached an xml file from MediaPortal which has the same info.

If you get this working it would be useful if you could submit the frq to Sage so it can be included in the next release.

Thanks for the help Mark, are you saying that I just copy/paste that file into the predefinedscan.frq file and see how I get on?

Should that be ready to go or do I need to tinker with it?

Paul.

EDIT - Seems that just copy/paste doesn't help, I looked at the other countries and came up with this
#predefined scan frequence table

"Finland ESPOO" =[(562000,8),(658000,8),(674000,8),{tune=1,pat=6,sdt=16}]
"Finland Hakunila" =[(562000,8),(658000,8),{tune=1,pat=6,sdt=16}]

But that didn't work.

I'm away from home so don't have access to the frq files to advise of the format thats needed. I think you're on the right lines i.e. use the file I posted to determine the frequency ranges and use the format for a different country in the frq as the basis for a Finland entry.

I tried MediaPortal (just for fun) and got DVB-T channels straight away with that xml file you gave (with impressively a working EPG)
So the numbers are correct, it's just my implementation of them that is wrong.

Just try, as your first entry in the file:
"Finland" =[(562000,8),(658000,8),(674000,8), {tune=1,pat=6,sdt=16} ]

If that doesn't work, try:
"Finland-ESPOO" =[(562000,8),(658000,8),(674000,8), {tune=1,pat=6,sdt=16} ]

Try also changing the last section to {tune=1, pat=8, sdt=18} which gives longer before timeouts IIRC.

Of course I'm not guessing, how could you think such a thing!

pmcguire: If you haven't already submitted this, don't forget to submit a bug report so that SageTV can look into the issues you are having.

Rick: I will try those later, one thing is that the mediaportal xml file has references to "nippu=43" I am not sure what they are or if I need them.
Mediaportal worked straight away with those figures, so I just need to massage those numbers till they fit.

Opus: I'm happy to submit a bug report if I see a bug, I think this is just user error.

No idea what that means! If it still doesn't work then do as Andy says, and Sage will have a look at it...bug or not, they'll no doubt be able to help.

If you send that file I posted in I'm sure they could translate it into an frq file in no time.

Ok rick your version of the FRQ file worked so beer for you the EPG wasn't working correctly though, so I would still like someone at sage to come out with an official one if possible.
That leaves me with only the DVB-S to setup now Unfortunately there are no examples of what the SAT file should look like, so I looked at the cable file and drew my own conclusions.

##predefined scan cable DVB-S frequence table
#DVB-S setup:

"Finland-Canal+"=[(11229000,24500)+H,(11261000,24500)+H,(11278000,24500)+V,(11309000,24500)+V,
(11325000,24500)+H,(11357000,24500)+H,(11389000,24500)+H,(12054000,28000)+H,(12303000,27800)+V,
(12456000,28000)+V,(12476000,27800)+H,{}]

Well it didn't work but perhaps somebody could take a look and see where I might be going wrong?

To do that, you need to create an official bug report. Official responses don't come via the forum.

On Satellite, no idea I'm afraid, but I would try it removing "+" from the label and even just with "Finland" as the label.

Don't forget to email your frq file to Sage when you have it working so it can be integrated.

As I said earlier, channel scanning does not exist yet. If your desperate to try it have a go with the following format for the frq file. Note this was used to get one channel to tune so a ts dump could be taken for development purposes, I didn't try anything beyond that so don't expect it to work and don't submit any bug reports if it doesn't

Create “TechnoTrend BDA-DVB Capture(DVB-S)-0.frq”

Format:

ch:index onid tsid program_id freq symbol_rate polarisation ctrl_bits(1:enable; 0:disable)

Polarization H:1, V:2, L:3, R:4

Use 0 for onid and tsid, 1 for program_id e.g. ch:1 0 0 1 10714 22000 1 1

I see some data but there are lots of holes, might just be me though.
Will research it a bit better later.

Give it a few hours to update fully. And don't expect a lot of detail...DVBT EPGs are generally pretty sparse.

Mark, thanks for the effort, unfortunately that didn't work though neither of us were expecting much
Just have to wait a little while I guess. I am taking this TT card back tomorrow and changing it for the FireDTV. I think that has a slightly more robust driver set.

I should of pointed out that you'll need to change the entry to something valid for your satellite!

I strongly reccomend keeping the TT card rather than switching. DVB-S2 support means HD compatability. FireDTV is DVB-S only.

Mark do you know if the Sagetv DVB-S CI implementation will require that god awful TT Auto Decoder plugin that is required for MCE?
Or will Sage have it's own version that hopefully works better?
