New computer
I would like to know if, for sagetv, it is better to buy the new intel duo 1.86 E6300 or, buy a faster single cpu like a p4 3.6.

Generaly speaking Dual core. But I'd splurge for one faster than 1.86ghz.
Your probably better off with a single 3.6 ghz than a 1.86 dual core, assuming theyre the same architecture and same amount of cache. I really havent kept up to closely with intel cpu's. Edit: According to Sharkyextreme.com 's price guide, a 2.4 Ghz Dual core is cheaper than a Pentium D (single core) 3.6Ghz. Last edited by lobosrul; 10-17-2006 at 12:08 PM. |

Core2's are not the same architecture as a P4, not by a long shot. They're a far more efficient archtecture.
I'd definitely go with the Core2. Cooler, less power, probably faster. Just better overall. |

Core2 all the way. I'm even an AMD Fanboy and even I want a Core2Duo (haven't owned an intel since a celeron 766). Run far far away from anything Pentium 4. If you you decide to go single core, look at the AMD stuff.
