Nvidia video decoder -- which version for HD?

I am trying to diagnose a HDTV playback problem.

Everything is working very well but occasionally I get stuttering on fast panning shots (1080i). On another thread I read that some people have had success in getting smother HDTV playbaxck by using different versions of the Nvidia video decoder to resolve these issues.

I have downloaded and used three different versions over the last few months but have not had the time to complete a detailed experiment to understand the advantages for smooth HD playback of one version over the next.

Version 1.02.185 (Nov 04/ 05)
Version 1.02.196 (Mar 02/ 06)
Version 1.02.223 (June 28/ 06)

Does anyone have any HD playback experience / feedback about these versions that I can use to help me understand the best direction to proceed?

Just to help the pros out, could you let us know what graphics hardware you are running? At least so others know if you are ATI or Nvidia running.

I recommend using the FRAPS utility to display the frame rate on the screen. This will verify if your system is having problems displaying 60 fps all the time, just some of the time, or if the show video is actually jerky. Plus it can give solid proof to performace difference for overclocking, different codecs, or overlay vs. VMR9.

Further data

I am using an ATI 800 series PCE card with the latest catalyst drivers. Output to the TV is via component video.

With a non-nvidia card you're running in software mode. Unfortunately the solution to your problems is probably to pick up an Nvidia card, preferably 7600GT upwards as they support the full Purevideo featureset.
