Import Videos into Library
Just curious, but based on some of the things I've seen with other programs (accessing online databases for episode info, etc.) I was wondering if now it would be possible - with the transcoding and Sage recognizing avi's and all - to 'import' things into the Sage database so the database/show library could be composed of both recorded off tv and downloaded episodes.
Just curious if this is feasible, if there's a way to do it already, etc? (This seemed like the best forum to ask in) |

Your use of the word "import" things into Sage has me a little confused. Are you asking if it's possible to record something played from the Google Video? That might be a nice feature. Otherwise, anything you put into the imported folders whether downloaded or not, Sage should be able to play it.
I know for me, I still convert my movies into mpeg 4 with a different program and just copy it into the folder and I don't need to do anything at all in Sage since it automatically refreshes imported media. But - I am curious as to how long it takes Sage to do the conversion from mpeg2 files to mpeg4. I've heard it's a single pass conversion. I know the two pass conversion I get with virtually no loss in quality takes a long time. I've also learned the higher the resolution one chooses (ie: 720x480 vs. say 400x240) will take much longer to convert. Mike |

What he's asking is if he downloads an episode of "Lost" or whatever from abc.com, is there a way to make it show up in SageTV Recordings?
The answer is that (as far as I know) there's no off-the-shelf plugin that does this, but all the necessary APIs are there for somebody to write one.

For downloaded videos I use the IMDB plugin. It doesn't remember the info in Sage, but it does allow you to easily view it from within Sage.

If you're not tied to the default STV, in SageMC you can import the IMDB data into Sage. Or alternatively, you can also import metadata from DVD Profiler, or create your own via .my files

So, say I miss an episode of Lost - or decide I want the entire season I've recorded in a teeny-tiny format without the encoding time. What would be nice would be the ability to incorporate it into the 'normal' tv show library instead of the Imported Video section. I had some issues with the IMDB extension/plugin in that it wouldn't find the correct episode descriptions - there are sites like episodeguide.com, however, that would make this type of thing easier for TV shows and are made specifically for it. I was just curious if anyone else was doing this, how, etc. Thanks for the answers everyone, even if they aren't optimal |

I need to look at the plugins, but would it be feasible to use a program like this: http://www.xlobby.com/forum/viewtopi...198b08e1eaaf17
Sorry, if it's taboo, but it's an xlobby plugin, but it makes a decent XML file for any files you scan with it. Using something like this, that makes the XML, would be perfect for doing this kind of thing I would think. |
