Client goes to "Server Unavailable" whilst watching a DVD

Sat down to watch Lord of the Rings as a DVD on my main client last night. After about 10 minutes, all playback stops and I was thrown to the "SageTV has lost the connection to the server - reconnecting" screen.

Now it's quite possible it had; I like my server to go into standby after 10 minutes or so of inactivity. But the DVD is local - it doesn't need any connection to the server!

I'm using 5.0.2 with SageMC 6.10. Haven;t had a chance to troubleshoot it and work out if it happens in the SageTV3 STV. Has anyone else seen this? If it's genuine Sage behaviour I'l report it as a bug, as my feeling is that my watching of a DVD should not be interrupted by this message (each time I have to watch the EULA, watch the intro, browse to the scene.... more than a bit of a pain).

The client won't run at all if it loses connection to the server unfortunately....this is by design I assume. I find this to be annoying as well, but virtually everything done in sagetv requires the server to be up; except DVDs I suppose...

If your server and network connection is reliable and you leave it on 24/7 this should be a non issue. My server never goes into standby as I use intelligent recording and I record a lot of shows; even if I don't get a chance to watch them.

The client does have to have a connection to the server, since the client isn't a stand-alone app. But, I think the key is that you should check whether the server did go into standby. I would guess that the server should not consider itself idle as long as there is an active client... but I don't really know the SageTV rules on that.

I thought this had been corrected in one of the later vesions... I know I have used playing a DVD locally to appease other viewers when there are server connection issues. My gripe with it was when the connection was re-established, it would stop playback and pop back to the main menu.

Well... it is really, isn't it? I mean, it's running independently of the server; it needs to talk to the server to get a great deal of info, but not when it's playing a local DVD. And when not connected I can still browse some local cached data, too.

Like Outlook - yes, it's a client for exchange, but it can run without a connection to exchange, and display local copies of things. Any thick client should be able to.

Equally irritating! Perhaps it will go away if I upgrade to 5.0.4 or 6.0.
