DirecTV - High Def with Sage

Is it possible? Anyone doing it and if so what is your setup/hardware specs and how is it connected? Also, I did notice on a high def box that it does have SVideo Out and I was wondering if the SVideo signal would be better than on a Standard DTV Box?

Thanks,
Mike

Yes, it's possible. Search the forum for R5000.

I thought the R5000 was only for regular stations and not cable.

If by "regular" you mean over-the-air broadcast, then no. You can receive OTA HD broadcasts using USB or PCI HD tuners. You don't need the R5000 for that.

The R5000 is a modification made to a cable or satellite box for the specific purpose of recording HD cable or satellite programming on your PC. If your sat box happens to have an OTA tuner built in, and you hook up an OTA antenna to that tuner's input, then you can use the R5000 to record OTA broadcasts, but it's really overkill for that purpose. Its main job is receiving the cable or satellite content.

But again, this is all explained in the main R5000 thread, which I recommend that you look up and read.
