System Should be Good Enough, but why the chug?
I recently bought v5 and am using v6 but both versions have had this same issue.
The system: AMD 3200+ 1GB RAM nVidia 7600GT pCI-e ATI Wonder Elite w/ Remote 19" 1440x900 Widescreen Primary Monitor 19" 1600x1200 Secondary Monitor I want to run SageTV on the seconday monitor fullscreen. I'm assuming that VMR9 with 3D Acceleration will give me the best picture quality with the lowest CPU usage. However, when full screened on the secondary monitor, the frame rates are pretty much cut in half or more, and the UI doesn't respond at all. But when the secondary monitor is set to 800x600, SageTV responds well. I figured a system of this wouldn't suffer too much. I can push full screen gaming fairly easily, but full screen TV isn't possible? When in Overlay mode, full screen works fine. But with VMR9, SageTV becomes unusable. Are these issues with SageTV itself or the hardware? Does my system have the specs to do what I want it to do? |

Your issue is most likely trying to use DirectX 3D Acceleration & VMR9 on a secondary monitor. DirectX works best (hardware acceleration as opposed to software emulation) on a primary monitor, so go to your Windows Display Properties -> Settings tab, then for the 2nd monitor, check the option for "Use this device as the primary monitor".

Hey thanks a lot. It seems to be stable now as the primary monitor. However, this leads to ALL dialogue boxes opening on the primary which isn't in front of me as I work. All program shortcuts default to opening on that monitor as well. Is there a way to stop this? I've even dabbled with UltraMon but nothing has surfaced.
Edit: It looks like nView can handle popups and applications appearing on certain windows. Ultramon does this to an extent, but the nView properties can create dialogue popups on a certain monitor depending on the mouse position, the monitor number, the application's monitor etc or a specifically chosen monitor.
