MVP response is now slow
I've seen others mention this but I do not think there is a dedicated thread. My MVPs seem to be getting less and less responsive as I use v6. I've turned off the animations even though I think this does not effect the MVP anyway.
My server has 1 2.4 GHz Celeron and 512MB RAM. Sage seeme be be using a lot more memory then it used to. Task manager tells me it is about 240 MB. Paging seems high and CPU utilization is about 30% v5 worked really well. v6 seemed to be OK at first but now it seems to be geting slower. At first I thought this was my imagination but today I am convinced it is getting slower. When I press the stop button the screen gos black and it takes about 15-20 seconds before the menu appears. Forget converting to DivX, that pegs the CPU and the MVPs become totally unresponsive. I've got about 500 GB of recording spread across 5 drives: 1 as a D: drive on the server and 4 on a NASLite server. I don't have any spare memory that I can add to the server (ECC) and I don;t want to waste my money buying more if that is not the problem. I hope this gets cleared up because it will lower the WAF substantially and I will have to go back to v5 (and waste my $30 upgrade fee.)

When the MVP becomes unresponsive, have you looked at the server? I've had a couple of issues now where the SageTVService has jumped to 98-99% CPU, totally wrecking Client performance. It would be nice to know it's not just me...
And I'm sure it will get cleared up!!

Yes, that's pretty much what happens. I should have made that clearer in my first post.
What I haven't tried is rebooting the machine. I'm so used to Sage being reliable that I forgot to try the obvious. I have stopped and restarted Sage but if it's a Java related issue that probably won't help. I'll have to try that tomorrow. Right now I'm busy watching a lot of recorded football! And ... why are you so sure it will get fixed?

I have seen my MVP get slow under two different circumstances. First when ShowAnalyzer is processing sometimes I see a momentary freeze, not on the server - just the MVP. Second is the instant I install nielm's Dynamic Menu plugin. If you are using this plugin I'd bet that could be the problem.

Are you, by any chance, using the Unsupported Extras?
I found that if I turned on Unsupported Extras, then set Recordings to Malore type that it caused the CPU usage on the main server to peg at 99% until you moved out of a program group. This, of course, made any MVPs very sluggish, indeed. Any chance that's what might be causing your cpu to peg as well? I found if I set Recordings back to default the problem went away. Stacy |

If the original issue for this thread is related to the malore menus: I got a note from srothwell about it & can reproduce it now. I'll look into what could be causing it.
But, please make sure to revert back to a completely default setup w/o the hidden extras turned on before submitting any bug reports. If the default setup works and the problem turns out to be in any type of customization (including the hidden features), please describe those issues in the forum. For the hidden stuff: I will check the STV code and follow up with SageTV if it happens to be a core issue rather than an STV coding mistake on my part. Thanks. - Andy

I've found that only those two things set to Malore are the cause. Stacy |

I am using the unsupported extras on the MVPs. I will turn them off and see what happens.
I do not have anything else installed on the MVPs at all. The only thing installed on the server is nielm's web server. I have installed some imports on a SageClient (koolec's web radio, nielm's intelligent suggestions) but I don't think that will effect the MVPs. Correct?

Update: I believe this high cpu usage on the malore menus has been fixed for the next release.
For now, you could continue using those menus, but when you return to the menu, use the Left arrow to go back to the left-hand pane, then use the Right arrow to return to the right-hand pane. That seems to refresh things enough to stop the runaway cpu train. - Andy

Yup, malore menus are the culprit. When I turn off the unsuppotred extras it all works just fine. I do hope it is fixed in the next release, I really like the malore menus.

I posted an update w/the fix where, hopefully, other people who use the hidden features are more likely to see it... in the secrets thread.
