HD picture over S-video not filling vertically

For one of the two nvidia dualtv tuners, I am using an S-video input from my Motorola HD cable box. In Sage, the Aspect Ratio Mode is set to Fill and works great for SD tv. When I change the cable box to a HD channel, the HD appears but it does not fill to take up the entire TV. It stays in a mode where there are black bars above and below the image (the fill only seems to fill horizontally and not vertically).

Any ideas?

Your analog tuner can only capture 4:3 resolutions, so that's why you're seeing the black bars.

Is there a tuner your recommend I can get to be able to capture HD digitally via S-video? I heard some of ATI's are good but wasn't sure what you've seen work.

Thanks!

S-Video is analog 480i. The reason there are bars is because your cable box is padding the 16:9 HD picture to a 4:3 frame when it's downconverting it. If your box is like my Dish 211 there may be an option to have it stretched to fill the screen.

To capture HD from the Motorola HD cable box, you have to use firewire.
