With David's interest in the world of HTPC growing, building new imports is once again getting interesting to me. I'd once spec'd out a set of specs for Movies, Sports, and others, and still have interest in doing it. I've written web scrapers for my Meedio components, but since M's demise, would like to build more online features for use in SageTV. (Haven't used Meedio since David took over SageTV from me.)
Instead of tackling something major, like converting my SportsSuite, I thought I'd start with something entirely new: Astrology. I'd like to include horoscopes, tarot, numerology, etc. Since David is engrossed in the Yankee game (down 0-4 in the 4th), I whipped up this program to scrape the internet for horoscope information.
What I'd like is a partner in crime, since I don't (yet) have the time to learn Studio. I have the data side done, and output the data in the 'weather_cache.properties' format. I can redo it in XML or whatever else is more useful upon demand.
The only thing I ask is that my Studio partner allow me access to the things behind the scenes they build so that we can potentially build a SportsSuite for SageTV afterwards.
Anyway, my SageAstrology web scraper is written in my favorite language, PowerBasic (small, powerful, straight-forward), and easy to use. Just run it and it generates a .properties file with all the scraped data.
Hoping this venture works out this time around. I miss programming. Worst case, this is better than listening to David grouse about his Yankees...!
