seperate tuner box

I'm out of pci slots on my server halting my tuner count at one and I desperately need to add more.

I have another computer with a amd fx-55 and plenty of pci slots
it has 512 megs of memory and gigabit ethernet
is there anyway that I could put the tuners on that computer then have it stream the data to the server where sage tv is running?

It is possible to use a 2nd full installation of SageTV (with a 2nd license) on another PC to make use of network encoders on that 2nd PC. The basics of this are in Appendix G of the PDF manual - pay attention to the SageTV server info, not SageTVRecorder, since SageTVRecorder is now obsolete.

I've always advised against doing this unless absolutely necessary because IMO keeping things simple is the best way to go.

If I understand the new upgrade policy correctly there is now even more reason not to use network encoders. I think when it comes time to upgrade you would be required to purchase 2 upgrade licenses as opposed to 1 if you run a network encoder. I could be wrong, if so hopefully someone will correct me.

Some people use a pci expansion chasis, usb-tuners, upgrade, or just move the server to another PC. If you figure the cost of another server license upgrading might not cost much more than the extra license would.

I've been looking into new motherboards but I can't find anything that has more pci slots.
on a semi related note, can pci-x double as pci?

Seems like USB tuners would be a much simpler solution, assuming your existing mobo supports USB 2.0. Even if it doesn't, you could yank the one PCI tuner you have and replace it with a USB 2.0 PCI controller.
