v6 wish list

v6 is a great improvement over v5, but there are a few features I'd like to have:

1. More video conversion options/automatic conversion of favorites, maybe H.264 or DIVX for long term storage/archived items

2. Internet radio under Online Services... Last.FM or similar free service?

3. Alternative to the one crappy looking, crappy running visualization for music

4. Native DVD burning

Anyone else want to add their 2 cents?

I'd love to see this expanded on as well. I'm sure the quality is ok for small screens and portable devices, but the quality is too low for shrinking recordings to save space and viewing them on a large screen.

You can create custom conversion rates; however, I believe you're still limited to single pass and I don't know how much improvement you can get through tweaking the settings.

I would also like the internet radio feature added.

My suggestion is multi-zone support for both audio and video. I'd love it if I could have an album or TV show playing on several clients or even throughout the house on all clients.

Nothing wrong with wishing, but bear in mind that major new features generally get added at the beginning of the development cycle, not the end. Beta release is usually a sign that the feature list is pretty much settled, and the devs are ready to concentrate on bug fixing.

So the best time to suggest new features is at the end of beta, when the devs are starting to plan the next version.

I'v adde some settings for my Archos Gmini 500:

transcoder/formats/Archos\ AVI-HQ\ (Large)=f\=avi;MCompressionDetails\=-vtag xvid -qmin 3 -qmax 5;[bf\=vid;f\=mpeg4;][bf\=aud;f\=mp3;br\=128000;]
transcoder/formats/Archos\ AVI-HQ\ FS\ (Small)=f\=avi;MCompressionDetails\=-vtag xvid -qmin 3 -qmax 5;[bf\=vid;f\=mpeg4;br\=1250000;w\=362;h\=272;][bf\=aud;f\=mp3;br\=128000;]
transcoder/formats/Archos\ AVI-HQ\ WS\ (Small)=f\=avi;MCompressionDetails\=-vtag xvid -qmin 3 -qmax 5;[bf\=vid;f\=mpeg4;br\=1250000;w\=480;h\=272;][bf\=aud;f\=mp3;br\=128000;]

The Archos can't play mp2 audio tracks, only mp3, so I couldn't use any of the other settings.

I also changed the fps rates from NTSC into PAL rates.

Additional Favorite features
1) Show name = College Football & keyword = Louisville
2) For syndicated shows or kids favorites option to record previously watched and a Keep AT least - Further extension would give record/keep priority to those viewed the longest time ago. If you've got kids, you'll understand this one.

Also WMVA LOSSLESS support. I chose this format for compatibility with my phillips "Not iPod".

I'd love to see a more powerful extender, ideally one that can play more formats natively.

It's a tremendous bit of work to squeeze so much functionality into the MVP so full awards to the dev team.

In general, the MVP is great and we use one for our main room now, however the slight lag on menus can be a pain.

According to "SageTV Version 6.0 Public Beta is Available"
18. Conversion of files (transcoding) is fully integrated into the UI; as well as managing the transcode jobs. Any format SageTV can play it can transcode with the exception of WindowsMediaVideo9 and WindowsMediaAudioLossless.
I interpreted this that this would prevent playback on the MPV.
