Haupauge media MVP
Is there a way to install the sagetv client with placeshifter onto the media MVP so that you can use the mvp over the internet ??

No. The MVP, used as an extender, is not a computer in the sense of installing anything directly _onto_ it. When it boots, it connects via your LAN to the SageTV server and downloads everything it needs at that point.

theoriticaly, If you had a router-to-router VPN setup or something like ISA server, you could set up the VPN to pass bootp packets. In that case, I think the MVP could possibly get the mvp.bin. But, the bandwidth needs would be high like Mike mentions. You could transcode to reduce bandwith, but would need to recode back to mpeg2 for the MVP. And I don't see how that is possible without some sort of Sage server near the MVP.
Far better idea would be a placeshifter client. It's designed for that application. |

The practical answer to this is no.
We can fill in the spaces if/as necessary but it'll still be no. Sorry. ---- Consider that the MVP will not stream correctly over any HPNA 1.0 device; those are rated at 14mbs theoretical max throughput and operate within your home. Even if you could get the bandwidth accross the INET cloud you would have problems with the Providor Core and PE routers not preferentially servicing your data flow. So you'd still get stutters and stops. |

What if I wanted to set some sort of video conferencing up that traversed multiple networks, but the slowest speed was OC12? That would be plenty of bandwidth for the MPEG.

Interesting. I was about to point out that the modern language of Rome (Italian - as opposed to Latin, the old language of Rome) would pronounce the term as /jeega/. So, maybe /jeega/ is the correct pronunciation and we've just been pronouncing it wrong all these years referring to Bytes....
