Do you leave it on?
I'm interested to know how other SageTV users handle their system when you are finished using it.
EDIT: To clarify, by "finished" I mean finished watching TV (or playing music, etc.) My assumption is that SageTV (in some form) is running 24/7 so as to be able to grab EPG and do recordings. I'm most interested in people who view SageTV on a TV and what you do when you are done using SageTV.

My server runs 24/7. I don't put it into standby because I don't want to take any chances when it comes to recording. Up until Sunday it was very low powered (celeron 366mhz) so power consumption wasn't that big of an issue. Now it is a AMD 64 3000 overclocked to 2667mhz with cool & quiet enabled. If I see a spike in the power bill I may have to reconsider sleep mode though. My main client usually runs 24/7 because standby mode has never worked properly on it. It is an underclocked and undervolted XP mobile cpu which helps. My secondary client is used as a general purpose computer throughout the day, Sage client in the evening, and is put into standby when I go to bed. |

Same here. Server always running 24/7. I do "stop" all video playing and return it to the main menu and turn off the TV and receiver. Harmony remote handles all the on and off of all the equipment. MVP and LCD TV is turned off. PC Client and LCD monitor in bedroom is put to sleep.

With my Xcard handling all TV output, I use SageTV while it is already 'sleeping' in the system tray, so there is no need to put it further to sleep. Oh -- and you really do want to stop playback, especially if it is live TV, or it will just keep going & marking everything as Watched. For pre-recorded stuff, paused is OK... especially if you just want to return later to finish the same show. - Andy

I put Sage to sleep (I assume that's what you mean by green power button, but I don't use the Hauppauge remote so I don't have a green button).
But I never turn off the server, or the client PCs. |

Server doesn't run client except for the rare occasion I need it. MVP is powered off/standbyed by remote TV is definitly turned off.
The TV in 99% of the cases is most of your power consumption, especially with CRT tv's. Not to mention on newer tv's (some of them at least) you run the risk of burn in. When I was using client I would sleep sage (not the computer).

I use HIP to script my on/off so that one button on my remote sleeps sage and turns everything off and the same button turns everything on and brings Sage back to the home screen.
I wish I could get standby and wake from remote working on my client but I haven't been able to as of yet.

My server is also my gaming machine thats in my room that runs 24/7. I also use it as a client and I pretty much just use the Sleep Timer import when I go to bed at night to take care of standby.
I also have a client machine in my living room (about to make it a MVP). I normally dont watch that one. I mainly my mom that uses the client machine and you know how they are, she just likes to turn the TV off and lets a show keep running. So most of the time I have to go in there and put sage to sleep. No standby on my client either, havent ever really got it to work well. Miller

I always put Sage to sleep, that way all "live TV" recording stops. And the turn off the TV.

I'd like to have my server on auto standby when not used; however, I also want to be able to access it over the internet, so I would need my router to be able to wake it. I think this ought to be possible, but I haven't worked out how to do it yet!

I have a firefly, the button on the bottom right puts Sage into "Standby", the screensaver pops up or whatever, anyway I started using that because it stops playback and when I wake Sage it is at the main menu. The computer goes into to standy by after 45 minutes I think, it is nice that Sage wakes the computer and then goes back to standyby to record. Only problem I have is sometimes 3D Acceleration and FSE don't stick after the computer wakes up, so occasionally I have to turn it back on.

Live tv works rather funky in Sage oppossed to other apps. Because of this the video MUST be stoped or shows are always being recored and some time latter deleted. all while no one is watching Tv. Oh and BTW you had better defrag a lot.. Anyway I have a server running 24/7 and sage is part of that running as a service.

On my client, I go to the main menu and then I put the client into S3 standby using the MCE remote - the remote can bring it out of standby again, too. So no fan noise when it's not in use and very low power consumption. I also put the TV in standby (the MCE remote has a programmable button for turning the TV off).
The server is set to go into S3 standby after 10 minutes of inactivity; it resumes from standby when it receives network activity (so SageTVClient, placeshifter, accessing my web site etc. wakes it), it is scheduled to turn on at 3 in the morning to get an EPG update, and of course Sage tells it to wake up before any scheduled recordings. Just implemented the last bit, as having a computer on 24/7 for maybe 7 hours actual access a week seems very wasteful. |

On 24/7 and does not even go on standby. Everything is running full speed 24/7. Going on one year right now.

Am I the only one worrying for the environment here (and the electricity bill)? I put my server to sleep when not in use. It takes only seconds to start up. If just Sage would make the mvp wake up the server, but I dont think it is a priority for them - yet.
