Can SageTV V6 continue a recording after a restart?

I have this little annoying Problem in my SageTV 4.0 that if a show is being recorded, and for some reason my computer crashes and restarts in the middle of the show, that as soon as SageTV is loaded again it simply starts recording a new file, disregarding the beginning of the show it had already recorded before the Crash.

It would be really cool if Sage would keep that partial beginning, and simply attaches from where it picks up at the end of the file. That way I'd only loose 1-2min of the show instead of the entire first half.

How does Sage 6.0 deal with this?

You shouldn't lose the first part of the show... It will record in two sections, but Sage should know enough they they are the same show and play both files, you should just see a blip between switching files. This is just from memory from what I remember it doing when ive had this happen, which hasn't been often.

Mine has always worked like that. I only lose the time the server was actually down. Mine has never crashed though, it was always due to me forgetting and rebooting during a recording.

My system crashed twince on me in the last month (both times while recording a show) and unfortunatly it just showed me the 2nd half of the recording. The first part was gone.

Is there something wrong with my SageTV setup, or was this feature simply not included in SageTV 4.0?

I know this doesn't address your question directly, but I have to say it. I cannot stress enough how useful it is to put your computer on a UPS. For me, power failures are pretty much the only reason my computer goes down. Our power out here is also not very clean. I'm convinced that fluctuations in power used to be one of my main causes of instability. Just my .02

One other thing you might consider is if the recording is a favorite and you know the episode will air again, just cancel the recording. Sage will clean up the partial and schedule the episode to be recorded again at a future airing. I have had a few power failures that lasted in excess of an hour and I had to shut down the computer. On restart, sage cleaned up the partial recording and scheduled the show to be recorded again automatically. I was pretty impressed. (It even did this once before I had a UPS) Hope this helps a little.

Aloha,
Mike

Every version of Sage I've used has kept both halves of the recording. It is possible that since your server crashed the first part of the recording was corrupted and Sage had to delete it, which left you with only the ending.

If you like that I've got one even better for you. I accidently rebooted during Sci-Fi Friday once and Sage deleted the partial recording and rescheduled it for later that night. I did some testing and it appears that if the show is airing again soon Sage will delete the partial and reschedule, if not it will keep the partial.

It might be the OS. Windows may have delete the partial file when it recoved from the crash and noticed a file out there that was not closed properly due to the crash. All I am saying is that it may not have been SAGE's fault the partial file is now missing.

On system restart I initiate, while it was recording, it has also been good about keeping the partial files and viewing them in succession with just the cut in between.

I agree it's probably not Sage's fault. Even if Sage is deleting the file it's not really Sage's "fault" if it is corrupt. I think most of us agree Sage is smart enough to keep the recording if it is usable and there is not the opportunity for Sage to reschedule and get the entire recording.

I'd suggest scheduling a recording you care nothing about and rebooting during it. Sage should have the opportunity to close the file out and save both portions this way. If that works then my guess would be that the crashes are corrupting the file so that it's being deleted. In that case there isn't much Sage could do.
