Nvidia 6150 grid problem memory related?
I just picked up an Asus 6150 to use as a client. I've been using it since Sunday with no problems. I'm running (2) 256mb sticks of DDR266 ram in dual channel mode at 320 mhz. The memory can easily do 450mhz in my old nforce2 board. I can't adjust the memory multiplier on the 6150 so I'm stuck there, but that is a different story.
I swapped it out for a single stick of 512mb DDR400 ram. I ran it at 500mhz and instantly saw the dreaded grid when playing back recordings in Sage. I didn't have time to slow it down to 400mhz and test, but I put my other memory back in and the problem went away. I've watched several shows since with no problems at all. I know changing driver versions helps some people, but at least for me it seemed to be related to the memory somehow. Last edited by blade; 10-03-2006 at 02:49 PM. |

...any chance you can try it with 2 sticks of the 500mhz RAM?

Not without pulling it out of another machine and I don't really have time to fool with it. I did have the problem happen to me with the 2 sticks of slower running 256mb sticks, but it didn't seem to do it as often. Since it isn't a primary client I've just switched to overlay. VMR7 also works fine, but I can't get the semi-transparent menus with it.

Interesting that it would seem to fix it with just changing RAM. I wish I had some extra sticks laying around to try it. The only fix I have had so far is the driver change. Is your board the Asus M2NPV-VM?

Interesting. I'll see what ram I have available at home try to duplicate this on one of my 6150 based cliet.

I've tried various things except changing the RAM.
I'm currently using the Corsair Value Select RAM 2x512 (came in one package) DDR400. I tried playing around with the RAM timings and speed but it didn't solve the problem for me. I haven't tried other RAM. I even tried running a single stick and no luck. The only solution has been reverting to the 82.05 drivers on the MSI website (haven't seen the problem since). |

I've got lots of various ram ... tried a few. Didnt help any. I can reproduce the problem pretty predictably, and I can avoid the problem (in sage) without fault as well.
For me, it is squarely, and utterly related to the drivers. Nothing else helps a single bit with the boxies. My findings is in this other topic (if you hadnt already seen it) : http://forums.freytechnologies.com/f...9&postcount=26 |
