Post Usage tips for new v6 features

You'll really want to turn on the hidden features.

Once you enable the hidden features, go to Detailed Setup -> Customize, scroll all the way down & enable the Quick Filter and One Touch Search options. (Or use the Options command while using any of the media browsers.)

Now, while viewing lists of items, you can just start typing text or numbers to filter the list down to just those items matching what you are spelling -- similar to predictive text, though it isn't truly predictive from any sort of dictionary behind the scenes. Use the Stop command to delete a letter, or switch to another browser view & back to clear the entire filter.

And, while using a browser's search screen, NTE entry (type some numbers) will do a similar search w/a single press of each number, matching anything that matches the letters from that number.

Try it out & see what you think.

And, I would like to thank nielm for the idea and some sample code that was used as the basis for this filtering.

------

OK, that required the hidden features to be turned on, but here's a shortcut for quickly switching from one browser view to another: use the FF2, REW2, Smooth FF, and Smooth REW commands to change the current view (the bar near the top of the screen) w/o having to select the icons for view changing.

You can also use the mouse to click on any of the visible views to switch to that one, or click on the current view for a complete list to choose from.

Don't forget to use the Options command to customize your browser layout a bit.

pop-up Group options

A repeat from the beta thread, but maybe it won't get lost here.

The Group options pop-up is a new dialog that you'll see when you select a group of airings/recordings/videos (p. 40 in the v6.0 manual), containing (what else?) the options that can be performed on that entire group.

If you would like to skip that pop-up, use the Info command or simply use Right while the group is highlighted.

The same Select/Info/Right usage tip applies when a single video is highlighed: Select for Options, Info/Right to go to the next screen.

Oh, and the same concept applies to the media browsers too.

Keep pre-v6 customized imported media data

If you've done a lot of data customization for imported media and want to keep that custom data after the upgrade to v6, see this post. (If you try those steps, please discuss any results for this topic in that other thread.)

A note on limiting a Favorite to a single channel

I just realized that I don't think the v6 manual even touches on this change...

On the Favorite Details screen, select the button to change the Channel limit. SageTV will now note the channels where the favorite has airings, taking into account all the Fav's limits for its various settings, and list those channels first.

If you have chosen a channel already: You will be informed whether there are future airings for that channel. Note: If the Fav is limited to a single channel, then by definition, it cannot show any other channel that has airings for this favorite, because the Fav has been limited to a single channel. If you want to see what other channels might have airings, select "Any", then reselect the Channel option button, so that ALL channels will be included in the search.

If the Channel setting is "Any": All channels that contain airings for this Fav will be listed near the top, and it will be noted which ones have future airings vs. those with only past airings.

You can select any channel listed for a Favorite, even those w/o known airings, but this new feature should help set a channel limit more quickly, especially since you won't need to scroll through a long list to get to a channel that is known to have airings coming up.
