SageTV freezes with lots of ff and reverse

I am trying out SageTV and everything is quite good except that it will freeze when I press fast forward or reverse several times in a row.
The video freezes on live tv playback or previous recordings.
When it is frozen, it shows a little CPU activity in the task monitor (around 1%) but the application just sits there and I can't move the window or anything. It's as if it is waiting for a command.
I installed the java 1.4 as recommended (it comes with the application) after removing my newer java.
Any ideas?

Thanks

Here are a few more details:
1) the problem can always be made to occur
2) It doesn't matter what the decoders are
3) it occurs in vrm and overlay modes
4) it does NOT occur wshen watching a DVD
5) I have tried several different video drivers
6) All antivirus apps are disabled
7) I enabled the console for SageTV

I get into the playback of a movie and all is well. When I press ff then I get a message which seems normal, I get a bunch of events with no errors, and then if I continue pressing ff it will freeze but there will be no more entries in the console except for the one where I pressed ff for the last time.
I can then go into the console and type control c and boom the program ends.

Any ideas?

System specs:
ASUS K8N-DL
2xOpteron 854 at 2.9GHz
4G DDR RAM
Nvidia 7950GX2

Thanks

You mentioned trying different decoders... did you also try changing the Audio Decoder Filter, or just the Video Decoder, in Detailed Setup -> Video/Audio?

You may want to list you decoders to see what someone else might suggest.

The problem exists with any decoders, it doesn't matter.
I have tried the sage decoders, the nvidia, the dscaler you name it. Same thing for the audio decoders.

I don't really know where to go from here.
I suspect it is a bug in the Sage software. I have not seen this in several other pvr programs.

Any other ideas?
Thanks

I suspect it is a bug in your system which very high end setup for gaming which is a bit of over kill for Media Center setup, and keep in mind DVD and MPEG are done a bit diff when they are decoded.
Have try install newer Java 1.6 beta 2 to see if helps any?.
As rule you should never get care away with the FF button.

Yes it is high end, but it is 100% stable in every other thing I have and do.

I will be trying some JAVA debugging tonight to see if there are any java errors that arise.

Thanks

Playing back video stresses components differently than say playing games or other apps. I have seen systems 100% stable running Prime95 for days on end yet they crashed after 5 minutes of running comskip. Not saying that is your problem, just wanted to point out that stability is not always clear cut.

Well, I can't seem to get any debuggin info working in Java. However, I finally got an error in the log and console

" AWTThread hand detected - hang time ....."
which repeats many times. Any ideas?
