jvfff,
I've taken a look at the log file. Probably there's a problem with the classpath caused by different versions of log4j.

Can you please remove the following line from the slimplayer.deps file:
log4j*.jar , org.apache.log4j.Appender
and see if this makes any difference in the error messages ?
This will skip the presence check for log4j*.jar

I suspect the
C:\Program Files\VERITAS\Backup Exec\NT\ECM\LOG4J-CORE.JAR;
C:\Program Files\VERITAS\Backup Exec\NT\ECM\LOG4J.JAR;
which are on the classpath and are interfering with the log4j.jar from slimplayer package.

Looks like we are on the right track, but not quite there yet.
First, I've tried your suggestion - nothing's changed. Then I've tried removing veritas settings from the system configuration all together and it was still the same... Then I've made a new SageTV log with veritas settings removed and to my surprise, classpath still contained the same veritas settings. I guess they are stored in more then one place. Then I renamed veritas folder with JARs to a new name so that it couldn't be found and SlimPlayer was back online! But this isn't really a solution now, is it? I'd like them both working somehow... Any suggestions? I'll play with it a bit more later.
Thanks!
Alex.

Alex,

you could try to update the veritas log4j.jar files with the one from slimplayer and see if backup exec still works.

Chris, I actually did try replacing log4j.jar file with the one from SageTV, but, apparently, the other two files (log4j-core and the other one) also in conflict somehow, because just replacing log4j.jar did not change anything. I'm not a Java person, but it seams possible to 'merge' two JAR files with the same name into one, combining all classes together in one package, so that both apps are happy. Am I correct? If so, what would be the best tool to do that?
Any other suggestions?
Thanks!

I think you only need log4j.jar. So, please try removing log4j-core.jar and replacing the log4j.jar with the one from sagetv JARS folder.
And, merging is not possible, because that would only work if there were not overlapping.

Thumbs up Solved!

Sorry for the late reply. Here's what I did:
- Made backup copies of log4j.jar and log4j-core.jar in case I need them later;
- Removed log4j-core.jar completely;
- Replaced log4j.jar with the one from Sage directory;
- Environment settings left unchanged;
And the player came back to life after this was all done. I think, log4j-core.jar was the cause of confusion somehow. So far Backup Exec also seems to be fine with the changes.
Alex.

No Nav menus

I recently installed this plugin, but now I realize that it is only partially working. I have the basic menu on the left, and I can select the station listed and hear music. But, I have no other controls or information. Now Playing information is not displayed, Favorites and Playlists are not displayed. Any ideas about what I've done wrong?

Here are some screenshots:

Any help is appreciated!!

Thanks,

I could be wrong, but I don't think it was designed to work with SageMC.

It should work "as is" with SageMC, but there is a SageMC specific import I am a bit behind on finishing up. A couple of nagging dialog issues to clean up.

Hi Morgan111,

Any timeframe on your port of this to SageMC? If it matters, I promise not to hold you to it

Hi. I am having a problem getting this to work with SageMC. Morgan gave some tips, but those didn't work, and we are thinking there might be a problem with the java interaction between slim/squeeze, and Sage. When I select a different favorite, or press stop in Sage, I get dumped to the Windows desktop about 10% of the time. Enabling error logging doesn't give any file due to the way Sage just crashes out (no file appears). However, a java error file does. Here are the contents. The java version is 1.6, and I did already try using the newest and various versions of the jar files that comes with slimserver, as well as ones from a softsqueeze player. I can also play the favorites fine using the web interface for slimserver.

OK, now here is the crashdump.... any ideas?

...BUMP... Is anyone else having this crashing (see above post)? I have tried various player JAR files as well as Java 1.4, 1.5, and 1.6 with no luck.

Using Slimplayer works fine, no crashing...

Hello again. I have now tried this import on a clean installation, using the original STV, and this import only (NOT SageMC, like before).

I STILL am having the crashing that I mentioned above (Sage crashes, instantly to the Windows desktop). Here is a crash dump from that. I have also tried this will all versions of Java, 1.4, 1.5, and 1.6. The crash occurs when I change streams via selecting a different favorite, or if I select stop with a stream playing. Other information: Slim server is on the same machine as Sage, The Softsqueeze standalone player (with the same .jar versions) works fine, and does not crash.

Dump....

Hi,
This is caused by a bug in Java and only occurs on some systems, (combinations of OS and JDK). I don't know which factors influence it.
You can read about it here:
http://bugs.sun.com/bugdatabase/view...bug_id=5040096

Also notice the comment at the end of the bug report:
the user is having exactly the same problem.

Also:
the developer who handle the bug report mentions this JVM parameter as a probable fix:
-XX:+UseDefaultStackSize

But I would not know how to give these paramters to the JVM since it is started from a generated EXE file, i.e. sagetv.exe.

Sorry I cannot do more.
- Chris

Hi. Thanks for checking it. This is unfortunate, as I really wanted to use this pluggin. Oh well, maybe whatever other factors that help "cause" it will change at some point.

Madcoder, I wonder if upgrading to Java 1.6 could clear up this problem with your current configuration? I have Java 1.6 on everything now and it sounds as if it is working pretty well for other users around here. Just remember to upgrade your softsqueeze.jar if you do upgrade Java.

Hi Morgan. I originally started out with Java 1.6. Then I tried regressing to the standard 1.5. When that didn't work, I tried 1.4 from Sage, which actually didn't work at all. So I have tried the newest softsqueeze.jar (as well as checked all other slim related jars), and all Java versions, with no luck. The interesting point is that the Softsqeeze player works fine without crashing, leading me to believe there might be an error in the stvi.

Just to clarify, is there no way to play slimserver streaming or other internet radio streaming via the media mvp?
