MVP boot problems

Here's my expriences with the MVP bootproblem.

Installed Sage on at IBM T42 labtob wit a hauppauge usb2 PVR box connected to it. uddated java, and directx. everything worked on the local machine, but the MVP wouldent boot. So I tryed everything suggested in this forum..... but no luck... the mvp get its address, flashes the Sage booting screen for a sec, and then black screen.

I even set up my DHCP server, to give the MVP the same IP every time...

OK..... so I installed an another PC, updated Directx, try'ed to update JAVA, but the sun homepage did'nt respond, so since an older version of it was installed, i went ahead and installed sage. everything went smooth, and the mvp booted the first time...

So to make a long story short, the major differences are: JAVA version, and NIC.

I was about to try another nic on the T42, but I don't have it anymore....

Java version on the working sage: 1.4.2_04

I lean towards a NIC problem.... like the Nvidia fix ????

all the best
Anders

Hi Anders

Please try to watch a few minutes of a show, then turn off the MVP to see if it will reboot.

I've been able to produce a series of successful power cycles but if I watch a show the mvp crash on the next reboot.

Lean more towards the java version difference. There are known memory leaks with some of the later 1.5. The latest (1.6 RC) seems OK. Sage comes with a 1_4_12 or something so if java wasn't installed on your machine it would install it. You might want try that first before getting another NIC.

update

Just to update you....

The MVP does not provide reliable operation, without the DHCP/"Always the same IP" fix.

But then it's all fine

EDIT: just try'ed the new ver. 6 beta.... seems to work fine with the MVP's.... Without the DHCP fix, and on the labtop i had problems with on ver 5
