You can check which JRE Sage is using by viewing the System Info page in Sage. If 1.5.0_6 wasnt previously disabled, then Sage would have used it, because Java apps will almost always go for the latest installed version.

Glad you got it working though!

BTW I don't think doing what you did would work for the Java. Just be safe and uninstall 1.5.

I celebrated a little too soon

After more extensive testing of my newfound smooth VMR9 1080i this weekend, I have come to the conclusion that I can get smooth playback about 5% of the time. This 5% is not 5% of the individual shows but say 3 minutes out of an hour show. Anyway, I have tried everything recommended in this thread including removing Java 1.5.6 and the trial of Cyberlink's PowerDVD7 decoders all to no avail. No matter what I try I get the stutter. For now I guess I'll just use overlay and try to increase the WAF. Overlay looks pretty good but I really bought the 7600GT for VMR9. Oh well.

Does anyone know if the special HD features of Purevideo (inverse telecine, etc) work with overlay?

Thanks again for everyone's help.

Here is what I did this weekend. As usual, I didn't do one thing and test...I did 'em all at once! I'm on AGP, but some will still apply:

AGP Aperture: Went from 64Megs to 128.

Disabled Cool 'n Quiet in BIOS and XP Power Management (From Minimal to Always On).

Loaded 84.25 Drivers with .196 PureVideo.

Hardware Accel/Anamorphic/Automatic/Pixel Adaptive in .196

I now have smooth VMR9 on all HD channels except one. It's ABC and supposed to be 720p, but who knows what the flags are saying. This channel is always messed up somehow by the broadcaster...usually the volume.

Anyway, I think running the processor at full speed is what did it. I've always run with Harware Accel enabled. Specs are below.

I was able to get smooth playback by turning off AF and AA in forceware with the 102.223 Decoder and 81.98 forceware.

I thought I would try the new HD Beta forceware 92.91 to see if it would run with AA and AF turned on, but I had to turn it off in that version as well.

I also now have a new problem when playing SD content I intermittently get a bunch of small black horizontal lines, they kind of flicker on and off. It looks like the decoder is trying to switch between modes - possibly between Film and Video, but I am just speculating. Does not happen when I use the Cyberlink decoder.

Does anyone know how I can fix this latest problem? Will I have any problems if I try going back to the 81.98 forceware?

I wonder how many of these display issues are the result of bad flags being sent from our providers? Will VideoReDo fix bad flags? Will anything?
