Very loud squelch after pausing live TV

Whenever I pause SageTV, step forward or back a bit (frame by frame), then hit play again, the sound is replaced by an extremely loud squelch that'll scare every cat in the neighbourhood. I need to pause again, skip forward or back and hit play for the normal sound to return.

This squelch is loud enough to damage my speakers, and it's gotten to the point where I hesitate before pausing live TV.

Has anyone experienced this problem? I'm using a Hauppauge PVR-250 card, and SageTV 2.0. I don't want to upgrade ($$$) unless this is a well-documented bug that's fixed in a subsequent version - and I CERTAINLY don't want to pay for an upgrade "just in case".

Thanks.

I can't help with your problem, but upgrades are free FYI...

As jds23 said, so far all Sage upgrades have been free.

Thanks, for some reason I thought the upgrade from 2 to 5 was not free.

Well just great. I upgraded to 5.04, and it tells me that my serial is not valid with the new version.

Perfect.

Newly purchased v5.0 license are not compatible with older versions, but the older licenses can be used with v5.0. In fact, you shouldn't even have to re-enter the license.

Where did you purchase your older license?

I would contact SageTV if an older valid license is not working with v5.0. If you are trying to enter your license again for some reason, make sure you are using the server license for the server & client license for the client.

Also the default install path has changed since ver. 2 and sometimes Sage will install to the new location instead of over the old one which can cause a few problems. I don't know if it could cause the problems you're seeing, but it's something to keep an eye out for.
