Will my 9200 suffice?

I have an older ATI 9200 video card with S-video and DVI-I out. As this card is pre-DX9, will this pose a problem for normal DVD and video playback? I was thinking of simply getting a DVI to component adapter instead of buying a dedicated HDTV card. Yes, I won't be recording anything HD, but I'm sure the menus and video will be a bit sharper if I'm allowed to use a vertical resoution of 720.
