Question SageTV Wireless Media Extender

In the past I have tried SageTV from my server PC (downstairs family room) to a client PC (upstairs bedroom) via my Wireless-G network. I found it to be less than marginal and frankly not worth it. Would anything make me think the "SageTV Wireless Media Extender" would be any better?

The systems work just fine sharing printers, data and the broadband internet though
I understand that my wireless net from downstairs to upstairs is sure to experience some degradation,

The reason I ask is, I just bought a new 30" Widescreen HDTV (Toshiba MD30H82) for the upstairs MBR and was wondering if the "SageTV Wireless Media Extender" would provide me worthy SageTV, unlike what I had experienced with a wireless client server.

BTW … The TV was a pretty good deal over at Costco. Not a Flat Panel, but Flat Screen with built in Progressive Scan DVD, HDMI, front USB port for Thumb Drive, Hard Drive or Digital Camera to play JPEG’s, MP3’s, WMA’s and Divx. Seems like a great inexpensive bedroom option for $499.99. Anyone else have this one?

Thanks, T.

I doubt that it will make any difference. Your problem is probably the WLAN itself. 54MBit should be enough for standard definition TV but depending on your enviroment you might get much less then that (Walls, other wireless networks, mircowave ovens etc.).

There are a couple of general guide lines that might help to improve the performance.

- If possible make sure that there as few walls as possible between the router and the WLAN clients
- Check if you have other WLAN in your vicinity with e.g. NetStumbler, Kismet. If you find any make sure thet you configure your WLAN equipment to use a unique channel. There should be a three channel gap e.g. if another WLAN uses channel 1 you should set your network to 4.
- Don't use 'mixed mode'. Switch your devices to 801.g only
- Switch of Turbo modes if you don't use them
- If possible move the router/access point closer to your client or visa versa

I use an MVP on a WLAN bridge and it works without major problems most of the time but I had to switch the recording qualiity to "Great".

Thanks for the feedback ...

I will check out some of your suggestions ... If I see improvement on the Sage Client side I may just try that Wireless MVP ...
