Controlling GDS3000 via DirecTV - and unwanted rebooting

Hi All,

After 3 weekends fighting Mythtv and coming off worst, I need to get something working ASAP (and need to get a life :-)), so I'm now I'm playing with SageTV.

Looks good but:

1) Right now I'm trying to control a Grundig GDS3000 via serial using DirecTV in a demo copy of SageTV v.5. It certainly doesn't work using default settings. So far I've found that if I use 57600,8,n,1 in hyperterminal, and when monitoring with portmon, boot the digibox I get the response in gds3000_boot.txt (attached), so I know the serial port is working.

I can see a responses when changing or keying channels with the digibox remote (see gds3000_boot.txt), but just get a 'cancelled' response when changing with the Hauppage remote.(see sagetv_start.txt).

So is DirecTV configurable in anyway ? What boxes does it work with ? Is this a lost cause ?

2) When changing channel, its' sometomes very slow, and sometime reboots the PC. I've upgraded the JavaVM, and the drivers for all the Hauppage kit were download from the website, anything else I need to check ?

Setup is:
Mobo: Intel 845GRG
CPU: P4 2.2Ghz
Ram: 768
Disk: 250GB
DVB: Hauppage Nova-T (works with BDA driver and via SBDARecorder)
Analogue: Hauppage PVR350 (Great TV-out!)
SageTV 5 (demo)

Any advice welcome !

cheers

...perhaps I've misunderstood what the DirecTVSerialControl is for ? (maybe for a specific box) ?

Well, to answer my own question, it would appear that I'm both trying to do the imposible (apparently Sky boxes can't be controlled using the serial port - http://www.heenan.me.uk/control-sky-...-protocol.html)

...and I'm clearly misunderstanding the whole DirecTVSerial thing.

Ho hum..
