Thumbs up This is a cool HDTV... 1080p 42" !

http://www.bestbuy.com/site/olspage....=1138084694260

Its on sale for $200 off too!!

I have the teeny 32" Westinghouse HDTV. Its res is 1360x768 (p). It is awesome really... thin, tight, fast, crisp (pixel to pixel perfection -> NO POWERSTRIP needed!), easy to use (the HTPC even knew what it was instantly!), and has every input you could ask for. This 42" above, has even MORE inputs, and more features gah, makes me drool.

I am debating... should I get it ?? should I get it ????

My main concern is the 1080p and my lowly 6150. I just now finally got it running smoothly with 1360x768. I am not sure how much I could push it resolution-wise.

Anyhoo... just thought I would post that, in case someone was looking for this and wanted a good sale on it.

I've got my eye on that one, but I know i've seen it on sale for $1500 w/free 15" LCD TV. In fact I almost bought it at that price, but I wanted to sleep on it and when I came back the next day the deal was gone

The only thing I regret about buying my Westinghouse is that I waited as long as I did before moving to HDTV. I paid $1599 about 6 months ago for the 37". At that time I think the 42" had just come out and was like $2400. If I found a deal like evilpenguin saw, I would buy another. A friend of mine bought the 42" on my recommendation and he absolutely loves it.

I would bet that your 6150 will have problems with 1080p, I have had problems with my 6600GT. I'm actually running 720p right now, it works great that way too. The thing is though, you will probably have this display longer than your next 3 PC's last in their usefulness. Its an investment in your entertainment future. If you have the money, go for it.

Yeah... I had seen that $1500 deal too, and at that time, I was in the middle of a lot of stuff and couldn't rightly get to purchasing it. DOH!

Ever since I had been watching it... and this week it went to $200 off. It's been bouncing from $2000 to $1900 off an on, but now its $1800... wish they would bring back that $1500 offer!!! I keep watching!

I have the LVM-42W2 still sitting in the box in my family room as I didn't have time to set it up last night. I am looking forward to getting out of work today so I can go home and play.

I now have a concern thou since I have a 6600GT based video card as someone else above mentioned. Am I not going to be able to do full 1080P? If not, can I expect any acceptable performance from any VGA based card? I would rather avoid upgrading my motherboard to a PCI-E one as I am pushing it with the wife now as far as expenses go.

Do you mean AGP ?
The last great AGP card I saw from nvidia was the 6800 Ultra... I don't know what ATI has... I don't follow them.

My 6600 works in 1080p it just takes more tweaking than I expected. Look at my thread below for what I had to do. For now I am running 720p as the text was so small on my 37" that it was a bit of a strain on my eyes. That and I don't have much media in true 1080p to worry much about it. Its nice to have for the future though.

I've had the 47" westy for about a month now. (I mail ordered it from crutchfield to hawaii ) It is awesome. At 1080p, text (default size) is readable at ~ 6ft, but you have to strain a bit to do it. I'm driving it with a 6600gt. It works, but the system is definitely 'touchier' than when I was running SD. I often see some freezing when changing menus and the such, and I had to turn off the stop popup screen in sageMC because it would lock up sage, but recorded tv (SD) looks good and DVD's look incredible. Neither have any stuttering, but I am using overlay. As this is a serious investment, I'm glad I waited and got the 47" instead of the 42". It will be a long long time berfore my wife lets me buy another tv.

Aloha,
Mike

Ok, so yes, I meant AGP. It is allergy season and the drugs are great!

I hooked up the 42" Westy tonight and changed the settings on the computer to 1920x1080 and it certainly works. Now to run it for a few days to ensure there are no problems.
