teach me to fish Actisys + power managment
Howdy,
I'm stating a new thread but I've already mentioned my problem several times in the power management thread : (http://forums.freytechnologies.com/f...=&threadid=595 ) My problem is this: ------------------------ I wrote a utility that reads the schedule output file and takes a computer out of stand by when a program is scheduled ( and also prevents the machine from going into standby while the program is being recorded ) Apparently it works for some folks, but not for me. My machine wakes up great. After wake-up Sage records during the scheduled time, but my Actisys does not turn the channel after waking up!! So sage records whatever is on the channel that was last set before the machine when to sleep. My question is this: ------------------------ Is there any way I can debug/figure out what is going on with my Actisys when my computer comes back from stand by? As a developer, is there anything I can do to contribute?? Please help me save ~$15-$20 per month on electricity!! I'm cheap, that's why I got sage and not Tivo!! Heeeeeeeeeeelllllpp!!! |

Jman, I am not familiar with the actisys but I assume it has software that drives it? If you restart the software does it work properly? If so why not just add some lines to your app to stop and restart the app when it comes out of standby? I am trying to think of a way to do this with Sage itself. I changed from S1 standby to s3 (suspend to ram) to save more power. Everything works great except the video in sage is not present. It records fine but when you try to watch anything its a black screen. Restarting sage fixes the problem.

actisys is run by sagetv via a DLL. So SageTV restart is pretty much the only route. I probably should try to do this on one of my systems at least as I have 2 always on machines....electric bills are $60 on the low side

JMan,
I have an actisys on one box on sagerecorder and one annoying thing I found is that half the time when I start I get a failure connect to ir blaster. Do you eperience the same problem? I think it may have to do with my ATI Remote or Girder. John

Do not install the software that comes with the Actisys if you are using it with any Sage application. This interferes with our ability to take over the device.

I didn't install any actisys software. It seems much more reliable if I start sageRecorder before ATI Remote software and Girder. As far as I can tell girder should not be connecting to the actisys.

This thread is starting to get derailed...
Can somebody from Frey please answer my question? Is there anyway to figure out what is going on with the Actisys? ...I love this product, but I only record 2-3 shows per day and it seems like such a waste to run my machine 24x7.... -------------- As far as restarting sage every time I come back from stand-by. That would be great, except sage hangs at startup (usually "profiler" init) which locks up computer about 10% of the time...(Hmm wonder if it's because the machine is still starting)....Never installed actisys stuff, the machine is fully dedicated to sage and was installed on a "clean" machine (i.e. fresh OS install with latest drivers, etc ). I don't run girder ( not even sure what it is ), I've got a single Hauppauge 350, and dishnetwork recv. Never had a "failure connect to ir blaster" ------ Last edited by jman; 10-10-2003 at 09:09 AM. |

The problem with the Actisys after wakeup is that the handle Sage has to the COM port probably became invalid.
Maybe some setting for your COM ports/BIOS that will fix the problem? Do other people have the Actisys working after their PCs wakeup using this?
