Somewhat strange problem after hardware blowup
First some background, I have been using sage for about a year now i have had a myriad of different software/hardware problems, and had found a pretty good setup and was using it happily for the past few months. Motherboard fan died, cpu burnt out, so i went and got a new mobo/cpu combo, new mobo has pci-e only, so i had to go get a new pci-e video card. Since you cant just replace a mobo in win xp, i loaded up the windows xp cd and did the repair installation to reinstall the mobo drivers. Now im back in windows and then i finally got the tv-out working again. So everything is going pretty well, sagetv is working, pq is as good as before, all my settings are intact, girder/remote are working, everything is good. Now for the strange part, i am getting a very slow response time on my remote (mce remote, philips) but not when navigating menus only when for example i press the info button during a program. After doing a little research i suspect this may be due to a problem or long lag b/w having to switch b/w overlay and desktop settings or colors, im not sure, i do know it wasnt like that before though. It also happens when i try to manually input channel #s. Now even stranger, i tried using the keyboard and it seemed to be fine, response-time wise. I restarted girder but that didnt help. Anyone have any ideas? Weird also is the remote works fine when scrolling around things in the sage menus, seems to only be when the video is playing
Setup: pvr150 sage 2.2something (if it aint broke...) gfeorce 6200 mce remote w/girder drivers athlon 64 3200 asus a8r mvp mobo tv-out, s-video --> composite |

this is really strange
if i play divx or any movies (ie not things i recorded) then all the buttons are responsive etc...if i playback something i recorded or live tv, the fast fwd/info and a few other buttons are very sluggish and slow to respond any ideas? thanks edit: i think ive narrowed it down to the mpeg decoder, when i switch from nvdvd to sage it works w/no problems, im gonna try reinstalling nvdvd or installing purevideo....well see lol Last edited by MillerTyme; 08-12-2006 at 12:22 PM. |

i finally got this figured out sort of lol, installing the purevideo decoders did help a little bit but did not fully solve this. I tried switching to vmr9 from overlay which did solve the issues i was having but was producing a choppy, blurry picture so that wasnt a good trade. I tried messing around w/FSE, 3d accel etc..Finally after reading through some of the other posts i decided to try vmr9 again this time w/3d hardware accel turned off in the purevideo settings and now the picture is looking good, just as good as overlay, in fact i think the color might even be a little sharper plus i get these cool transparent menus lol. So if anyone is having somewhat similar issues to me, or any issues etc i would try disabling 3d hardware accel, btw can anyone tell me any downside to disabling this on a dedicated sage box?

Was having exact same problems
Thanks for the help. I moved my system to a new case and added a new main boot drive. Have had the strange sluggishness with my remote. Sage would even continue to run for a few seconds after I hit the off button on my remote with the video stopping first then audio stopping a second or two behind the video. I made the changes in the decoder (from sage to intervideo for hauppauge) things seem to be back to normal. I will keep an eye on it to make sure that solved it.
